Baron Hill Being Rude to Constituents Baron Hill at an official town hall event at Ivy Tech in Sellersburg, on August 14, 2008. Throughout the evening, various constituents asked Baron questions to which he did have or did not want to give answers. At times, Baron became quite angry and rude with those asking him questions, going so far as to demand a specific example from one constituent and then refusing to give a specific example to another later on.

Constituent Meeting A constituent meets with their WA State Representative...and finds out that they agree on two things. Author's note: As a State Representative, the best part of my job is meeting with and listening to constituents. It is the foremost responsibility of an elected official. We want to hear from you. I will drop whatever I am doing when a constituent shows up. In Washington State, you can look up your legislators here: apps.leg.wa.gov Sometimes-- but certainly not always-- the meetings can be awkward. This clip is not meant to make fun of constituents, but rather, to reflect the humor in the awkward meetings that sometimes take place-- especially when a constituent has been "prepped" to say certain things by an organization. Everyone should get to know their state legislators-- and should meet with them to share their views and concerns. You don't need to be an expert in the subject matter or in politics-- just be willing to speak from your heart and share YOUR perspective. Some tips for effective citizen lobbying: (1) Build authentic relationships with your legislators when the Legislature is not in session. Political campaign season provides great opportunities to get to know you local legislators. (2) When possible, try to give adequate advance notice to schedule a meeting. Be flexible- schedules during the legislative session are hectic. (3) Stay positive. Do not name-call or insult the person you are trying to persuade. This should be obvious, but you should see some of ...

Lou Barletta recaps March's Constituent Work Week 3/31/11 US Representative Lou Barletta, PA-11, took to the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday to talk about his most recent district work period, about the need for fiscal responsibility, and about an educational program that works for some of his youngest constituents. "Throughout the week, I heard from small business owners, local officials, university leaders, teachers, students, Rotarians, and a Purple Heart National Guardsman about the issues facing Pennsylvania's 11th Congressional District. Although the voices were different, the message was the same -- we need to get our economy back on track," Lou said to begin his remarks. Some of the highlights of Lou's five-minute floor speech: • About his comments about federal spending to the Rotary Club of Hazleton: "I let them know that we have a debt crisis in this country -- not because Washington taxes too little, but because Washington spends too much. For far too long, the federal government has overspent, overtaxed, and over-borrowed. That stops now." • About an education program in Carbon County: "If we are serious about our economic prosperity, we must cut wasteful spending in favor of investments proven to work. Last week, I visited the SHINE 21st Century After-School Program at Panther Valley Elementary School in Nesquehoning. Located in 10 schools in Carbon and Schuylkill Counties, SHINE is a data-driven, rural education model designed to provide academic enrichment to at-risk students. ... Like the DC ...

Constituent Assembly Debate: Dr. BR Ambedkar speaks [Constituent Assembly Debate. Dr. Ambedkar Speaks] (Speech Text) So far as the ultimate goal is concerned, I think none of us need have any apprehensions. None of us need have any doubt. Our difficulty is not about the ultimate future. Our difficulty is how to make the heterogeneous mass that we have to-day take a decision in common and march on the way which leads us to unity. Our difficulty is not with regard to the ultimate; our difficulty is with regard to the beginning. Mr. Chairman, therefore, I should have thought that in order to make us willing friends, in order to induce every party, every section in this country to take on to the road it would be an act of greatest statesmanship for the majority party even to make a concession to the prejudices of people who are not prepared to march together and it is for that, that I propose to make this appeal. Let us leave aside slogans, let us leave aside words which frighten people. Let us even make a concession to the prejudices of our opponents, bring them in, so that they may willingly join with us on marching upon that road, which as I said, if we walk long enough, must necessarily lead us to unity.

Angry Constituents Converge on Rep Erik Paulsen's Office An angry, sometimes hostile crowd of about 75 of Congressman Erik Paulsen's constituents gathered at his Eden Prairie office to express serious concern over his support of drastic budget cuts proposed by the House Republicans. The overflow crowd was a broad cross section of voters from his district representing a range of ages. There were some supporters, but most expressed extreme displeasure with the way Paulsen and the political parties are facing the crisis. One constituent saw the meeting as a microcosm of what is happening in Washington. "It's kind of hard to have a productive dialog or conversation in a more confrontational environment ... And I think that part of the thing is , we're kind of seeing this in Congress right now. Because a lot of people aren't willing to even listen to other points of views even though they know we have to meet some kind of kind of compromise. But that's kind of where we're at. And I think what we have to do is find some way around that so that we can work together. Representative Paulsen was not present for the meeting, instead sending a staffer to talk to the crowd. The UpTake was not allowed to tape the what happened but we were allowed to stay and talked to people after the meeting. Few answers, lots of anger "People asked a bunch of questions and we didn't get much for answers" said one attendee after the meeting. Several noted Paulsen's staff member was new (he has been with Paulsen only since January) and didn't have many ...

Video: Allen West Dismissive of Muslim Constituents' Concerns (CAIR) FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) -- A South Florida Muslim group sent Congressman Allen West a letter asking him to disassociate himself from activists the group considers anti-Islamic. Congressman West did respond and the letter he sent back is raising some eyebrows. If it looks like the shortest letter you've ever seen from a member of congress, it probably is. How short? Try one word, in capital letters: "NUTS!" "I was shocked at first. I didn't expect this from a congressman," said Nezar Hamze, the executive director of CAIR Florida — the Council on American-Islamic Relations. "We stand up for the civil rights of the Muslim community. That's what we do," said Hamze. Hamze says he wrote to the congressman earlier this month with his concerns about the congressman's relationships with groups and people Hamze considers to be anti-Islamic. "When I first saw that, I wasn't sure if he was calling me nuts, or he was calling my concerns nuts," said Hamze. Constituents in West's district 22 are just now reading the letter. "It doesn't look too professional to me. It doesn't look thought out," said one constituent named Chuck. Simone Oliver, another district 22 constituent thinks it's fine, but says it needs a little more. "Maybe another sentence, explaining," she said. West has not fully explained his position, but in other letters to CAIR Florida, he has said he is neither anti-Islamic nor anti-Muslim. Then CBS4 News discovered that during World War II, General Anthony McAuliffe ...
