My Second Coil Gun Completely Portable single stage, 100 joule(ELECTRICAL ENERGY), bolt action, 6 round mag soon to be dual stage, 200 joule(again ELECTRICAL ENERGY) I've had a few ask how I built this gun so rather than answer everyone's questions individually I'll just answer it here. I started with a 12 volt SLA (sealed lead acid) battery that I found online somewhere. That powers a power inverter that you would normally use in a car to get 120 volts ac. That powers a voltage multiplier ( google it to find out what that is if you don't know that's how I found out). And that puts out the 385 to 400 volts to charge the caps. The capacitor bank is made of 3 electrolytic Caps that have a 450 v. capacity rating and I believe are 470uF each. The box in between the barrel and PVC pipe are 2 solid state relays wired in parallel to fire the coil. There is another solid state relay that turns the charging on and off. the Coil is made from 2 strands of 22awg magnet wire( it was what i had next time I think I'll use 1 strand of 18awg). From what I've found so far the size of the coil depends on the size of the bullet and cap bank. Mine is a little bit longer than the bullet and about 1" in diameter. I don't think mine is quiet right but I'm still working on it. There is also 4 hi cap diodes wire anti-parallel to the coil. This protects the caps and charger from the reverse voltage created when power is removed from the coil. So the Gun is basically controlled by 4 switches. The red switch is the ...

Singing Tesla Coil at Duckon 2007 This is a solid-state Tesla coil. The primary runs at its resonant frequency in the 41 KHz range, and is modulated from the control unit in order to generate the tones you hear. So just to explain a little further, yes, it is the actual high voltage sparks that are making the noise. Every cycle of the music is a burst of sparks at 41 KHz, triggered by digital circuitry at the end of a "long" piece of fiber optics. What's not immediately obvious in this video is how loud this is. Many people were covering their ears, dogs were barking. In the sections where the crowd is cheering and the coils is starting and stopping, you can hear the the crowd is drowned out by the coil when it's firing. This Tesla coil was built and is owned by Steve Ward. Steve is a EE student at U of I Urbana-Champaign. He and Jeff have been going to Teslathons, which is where they met. It's been suggested that a good name for this coil would be the "Zeusaphone". "Thoremin" has also been mentioned, though personally I think we need Theramin type inputs for that. To answer a few questions I've received, YES, someone did yell "Play Freebird!" after the first round of music.

Trifilar Coil Jig This is a coil winding jig i made. It has made making coils for my pulse motor experements very nice. I was having a hard time trying to wind the coils with one hand and film at the same time, but i can assure you that with a little patients, you can make some beautiful coils with it. The foot switches are from old sewing machines, they are used just as a hands free on/off switch and the dimmers are used to vary the speed. Remember to keep some tape by you, when you get done winding, get some tape on that thing so it doesnt try to unwind on you. It will take some creative rigging to get different coil forms on the allthread, but im sure this crowd can handle that. The basic design was inspired by youtube user truthbeeknown. Here is his He also has lots of great vidios on motors he has made and a website. Happy coiling!

Musical Tesla Coil Singing Mario Under Ground and Others This clip is from the 2007 Duckon Sci Fi convention in Naperville IL, USA. The show consisted of 2 Tesla coils making lightning for patrons to enjoy. The musical Tesla Coil turned out to be a big hit. The coil in this clip is a solid state musical Tesla coil constructed by Steve Ward. The Tesla coil stands 7 feet tall and is capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. The sound pressure level is well over 110dB. The coil is powered by 240 volts and can draw over 40 amps. The coil resonates at a frequency in the 45 KHz range, and is modulated by a microprocessor sending out trigger pulses over a fiber optic link. The fiber optics are used to provide electrical isolation for the control electronics. The high voltage sparks are making the notes that you hear. Every note of the music is a burst of sparks at the note's frequency. Here is a video of the coil from a different angle from a earlier run of the coil. Video captured by Terry Blake edited by Jeff Larson.

Zelda played on Twin Musical Tesla coils Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils playing the Zelda theme song. The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved. The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software. What is not obvious is how loud the coils are. They are well over 110dB. Listen for the echo after the notes stop. These coils were constructed by Steve Ward and Jeff Larson. Programming and musical content by Steve Ward. Video was captured by Terry Blake and edited by Jeff Larson.

Kubik Coil (First Coil) 001 This this a First Stage of a Kubik Coil. It has some very Interesting Characteristics. Like it can make Magnets Vibrate to Produce Music..... It is wired up the same as a Rodin coil for the first winding then the rest are 120 degrees out of phase. My coil Is different to Rodins even though it uses his maths it is Phased at 120 degrees and uses 3 coils, I will not be using My Coil at present to Make videos unless people wish me to Email me or leave comments! I was told even though the Rodin Coil was Public Domain that I was confusing people. A Kubik Coil is a Three Coiled Rodin Coil Phased at 120 degrees I think people understand. I wanted to differentiate that a kubik coil is a Rodin Coil that has 3 coils and is 120 degrees out of phase and I might take the hairdryer too it... ;-) Please look into Rodins Coil Design, More to follow once I have the Second and Third Coil up and running.. Enjoy and please comment... Paul.. Please Donate Now, so I Can Keep Making Quality Videos: Thanks for your support..

Giant Tesla Coils in Russia!!! Marx Generators for testing insulators One of my viewers sent me these pictures from Russia +55° 55' 26.15", +36° 49' 10.97" These are High-Voltage Pulse Generators (marx generators) that belong to the All-Russian ElectroTechnical Institute's "high-voltage scientific research center" A bit different than Tesla Coils, but based on the same principal only built up in series to achieve much higher voltages. Generators this large certainly produce enough power to effect local weather and possibly enough to electrically charge the upper atmosphere, similar to harp except that haarp can pin-point locations using specific ELF frequencies unlike these Tesla coils which produce incredibly high (electro-static) voltages. The purpose and outcomes of this, rather odd science projekt, is still not quite clear. (k added for emphasis) One possible explanation is that they are used to study the behavior of equipment under powerful electromagnetic radiation comparable to that of a nuclear explosion. Another theory is that the All-Russian ElectroTechnical Institute's "high-voltage scientific research center" is creating their own version of HAARP High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program. www.haarp.alaska.edu For more pictures visit Please rate, and leave a comment with any information you may have. Another side note to my viewers, if you come across anything you think I might be interested in, please don't hesitate! Send it along! The worst case scenario is I simply ...
