Leonard Cohen - Joan of Arc Now the flames they followed Joan of Arc as she came riding through the dark; no moon to keep her armour bright, no man to get her through this very smoky night. She said, "I'm tired of the war, I want the kind of work I had before, a wedding dress or something white to wear upon my swollen appetite." Well, I'm glad to hear you talk this way, you know I've watched you riding every day and something in me yearns to win such a cold and lonesome heroine. "And who are you?" she sternly spoke to the one beneath the smoke. "Why, I'm fire," he replied, "And I love your solitude, I love your pride." "Then fire, make your body cold, I'm going to give you mine to hold," saying this she climbed inside to be his one, to be his only bride. And deep into his fiery heart he took the dust of Joan of Arc, and high above the wedding guests he hung the ashes of her wedding dress. It was deep into his fiery heart he took the dust of Joan of Arc, and then she clearly understood if he was fire, oh then she must be wood. I saw her wince, I saw her cry, I saw the glory in her eye. Myself I long for love and light, but must it come so cruel, and oh so bright?

Cohen's Masterpiece (Cohen's Scherzo n°7) This is a beautiful piece written by Garry Schyman for the game "Bioshock" I would like to thanks Garry Schyman himself for the sheet music of his piano piece. Here is the website of the composer : I used two different angles with the camera to get a better view of the movements. I hope you'll like it.

Sisters of Mercy - Leonard Cohen From the Movie Mc Cabe and Mrs Miller SISTERS OF MERCY Lyrics Oh the sisters of mercy, they are not departed or gone. They were waiting for me when I thought that I just can't go on. And they brought me their comfort and later they brought me their song. Oh I hope you run into them, you who've been travelling so long. Yes you who must leave everything that you cannot control. It begins with your family, but soon it comes around to your soul. Well I've been where you're hanging, I think I can see how you're pinned: When you're not feeling holy, your loneliness says that you've sinned. They lay down beside me, I made my confession to them. They touched both my eyes and I touched the dew on their hem. If your life is a leaf that the seasons tear off and condemn they will bind you with love that is graceful and green as a stem. When I left they were sleeping, I hope you run into them soon. Don't turn on the lights, you can read their address by the moon. And you won't make me jealous if I hear that they sweetened your night: We weren't lovers like that and besides it would still be all right, We weren't lovers like that and besides it would still be all right.

"Dance Me To The End of Love" Leonard Cohen Music video for Leonard Cohen's song "Dance Me To The End of Love" from his album "Various Positions.' FINAL NOTE FROM THE MAN HIMSELF: 'Dance Me To The End Of Love' ... it's curious how songs begin because the origin of the song, every song, has a kind of grain or seed that somebody hands you or the world hands you and that's why the process is so mysterious about writing a song. But that came from just hearing or reading or knowing that in the death camps, beside the crematoria, in certain of the death camps, a string quartet was pressed into performance while this horror was going on, those were the people whose fate was this horror also. And they would be playing classical music while their fellow prisoners were being killed and burnt. So, that music, "Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin," meaning the beauty there of being the consummation of life, the end of this existence and of the passionate element in that consummation. But, it is the same language that we use for surrender to the beloved, so that the song -- it's not important that anybody knows the genesis of it, because if the language comes from that passionate resource, it will be able to embrace all passionate activity.

Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen) - Allison Crowe live performance "It's, as I say, a desire to affirm my faith in life, not in some formal religious way but with enthusiasm, with emotion.... It's a rather joyous song." ~ Leonard Cohen, creator of the song, Hallelujah. He says: "I wanted to write something in the tradition of the hallelujah choruses but from a different point of view... It's the notion that there is no perfection ~ that this is a broken world and we live with broken hearts and broken lives but still that is no alibi for anything. On the contrary, you have to stand up and say hallelujah under those circumstances." Canadian indie singer-songwriter Allison Crowe's uniquely potent interpretation is heard on her album/CD, "Tidings". (The song enjoys increasingly wide appreciation - even marching into the mainstream with performances by American Idol contestants Jason Castro, Lee DeWyze and by UK X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, Dutch X Factor champ Lisa Hordijk, Polish Idol contestant Kasia Popowska, New Jersey rocker Bon Jovi, and Battle of the Blades' skater Claude Lemieux. This popularizing continues - with Maddy Curtis, auditioning in 2010 for American Idol, performing the song, and Matt Morris and Justin Timberlake duetting at the Hope for Haiti event, followed by Céline Dion with the Canadian Tenors' on the Oprah Winfrey Show - the latter a prelude to the 2010 Olympics opening ceremony at which kd lang performed the song. Opera singer Renee Fleming is among the latest to record Hallelujah ...

Leonard Cohen - The Future [Official Music Video] The OFFICIAL video clip for "The Future", lead single from the 1992 album of the same name. (c) 1993 SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT (Canada) IMPORTANT NOTE: There's an INTENTIONAL "censorship" of words "crack" and "*** ***" to further underline the song's contents. This was made probably by Cohen himself, and in any case, it's present in the ORIGINAL video clip - my copy comes from the official The Future press kit. Cohen himselfs sings "careless ***" instead of "*** ***" - in 1993 tour, he was doing so when the concerts were broadcasted, in 2008-2010 tour, he's singing "careless ***" constantly on every single show. NOTE: The video follows *radio edit* version. The single version was shortened from 6:41 to 4:53, shortening chorus (REPENT lines), omitting the verse starting with line "Your servant here", and in the end, by omitting the repeated first verse and shortened chorus (you can clearly hear the cut before the last chorus, at 4:01). Omitted verses are in [brackets]. THE FUTURE Give me back my broken night my mirrored room, my secret life it's lonely here, there's no one left to torture Give me absolute control over every living soul And lie beside me, baby, that's an order! Give me crack and *** *** Take the only tree that's left and stuff it up the hole in your culture Give me back the Berlin Wall give me Stalin and St Paul I've seen the future, brother: it is murder. Things are going to slide, slide in all directions Won't be nothing Nothing you can measure anymore ...
