  • California's Controversial Circumcision Ban Transcript by BY JESSICA FLYANCHOR CHRISTINA HARTMAN You're watching multisource politics news ***ysis from Newsy. Support is piling up for a bill that would ban male genital mutilation -- circumcision -- in several California cities. Now on San Francisco's November ballot, the MGM lobbyists are working on Santa Monica citizens. Angela Ringo "When asked shouldn't parents make that decision" Lloyd Schofield: "Well, we think the owner of the penis should be able to make that decision." Angela Ringo: "Both proposals contain no religious exemptions. Leaving many supporters of circumcision arguing the ban would threaten first amendment rights." MGM supporters say male circumcision, like female genital mutilation, is a painful and unnecessary practice. But others say it is a religious commandment they will follow no matter what. KNBC Reporter: "As for Rabbi Levitansky he says a ban would send mohels underground." Rabbi: "Even in the 21st century we will continue to this commandment, nothing will stop us. At all." The possible First Amendment breach has even caught the attention of Islamic and Jewish leaders in Washington - as WUSA reports. "Reporter: The rabbi isn't alone. Imam Johari Abdul Malik agrees to ban circumcisions is wrong. The procedure just like in the Jewish faith, is part of the Islam culture." IMAM: "In the constitution is that each religious tradition has the right to have its own practice." As it stands now circumcision is not a required practice ...

  • Mom, why did you circumcise me? This documentary was made by journalist/filmmaker Michael Schaap. See his latest works by visiting his site: This documentary is originally available here: Carefully consider these reasons as whether or not to do this: 1. For the dads: Your son will never look like you in every way. Boys rarely see their fathers penises past a young age, and no matter what, grown mens penises look very different in size and hair content from their baby boys. Daddy, that because I am argument is a pretty poor one. Your mother made the decision to circumcise you in a culture very different from ours. Would you also have your wife not breastfeed if your mother did not? 2. Locker room fears: if 40% of boys are now left intact (and more in some places), your son wont look much different than others in the locker room. And anyhow, why would boys be checking each other out in the first place?! I should think that the one poking fun would be the guy with the real problem! 3. The cleanliness thing. A boy is not dirty who bathes regularly. Given a little soap and water, he should stay clean. Incidentally, this dirty thing is the same argument used by proponents for female circumcision. 4. Would you cut off your daughter daughter's ***oral hood(term for the biologically same body part as foreskin except on a female obviously)? What if you were in a culture, like areas or Indonesia for example where the widespread beliefs are that ***oral hoods are ugly, unhealthy and ...
  • Difference Between: Male & Female Circumcision A while back, PZ Myers discussed the AAP's interest (at the time) in allowing doctors to perform a less invasive procedure than male circumcision. PZ wasn't happy about this, and many of his readers had to wonder why someone would be outraged about a less invasive procedure than male circumcision before getting outraged about male circumcision. For the record, PZ noted that he does not agree with male circumcision; however he did strawman the argument, and used plenty of ad hominems. Blog Entry Here: Rebecca Watson--at the end of a video in response to tosheatower--used the same strawman argument. This was a better response than PZ Myers delivered, solely because it lacked ad hominem, however it still suffered from the same strawman argument. Video Here: I have much respect for both PZ and Rebecca. This is not an attack against either of them. • How to heal from circumcision Could circumcision be a fundamental aspect of American corruption? What if the rape and mutilation of infant boys caused them to "act out" in a manner similar to abused females? Are more than 50% of American males acting like "damaged goods"? This video attempts to answer these questions and council male victims. ***** references: In the Penn and Teller special about it, notice the female of the couple is pushing for the emasculation operation: (warning: contains foul language and explicit images) Also in this documentary, a Dutch journalist/filmmaker Michael Schaap seeks to ask his mother about why she agreed to the abuse: And also this case reported on Fox news: "It has been demonstrated that mothers more than fathers usually decide whether to have their sons circumcised." • Baby Mario Circumcised Without Permission Baby Mario was born this summer in a South Miami, Florida, hospital. Due to complications (some type of infection), baby Mario was in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for ten days. While in the hospital, Mario's mother Vera Delgado explicitly and repeatedly told the hospital staff that she did not want her son circumcised. She refused to sign the consent form for the circumcision surgery. Despite all this, Mario was circumcised. On the eighth day of Mario's stay in the NICU and after Vera Delgado left her son's side to go home and shower, a doctor removed baby Mario from the NICU and circumcised him. Without consent. Without the parents being present. Without consideration that the infant was in the NICU and should not have to undure the stress of circumcision surgery. What motivates a doctor to circumcise an infant like this? In Mario's case, the doctor was female, so she should not have the circumcision bias that many circumcised male doctors have to perpetuate the harm that was done to them. Possibly the motivation was that the cutting doctor went to medical school in the Philippines, where it is common for adolescent boys to be circumcised or tuli. Perhaps the motivation was the hospital putting pressure on the doctors to perform neonatal circumcisions. After all, hospitals make money from doing procedures, even unnecessary ones like circumcision. Most hospitals charge from $300 to $900 for an infant circumcision. Then there are the fees for the incidentals ...

Parents readily recognize the importance of local cleanliness and genital hygiene in their children and are usually ready to adopt measures which may avert masturbation. Circumcision is usually advised on these grounds." [Meredith F. Campbell. The Male Genital Tract and the Female Urethra. in: Campbell's Urology. vol. 2. • Coarse Funny Infant Circumcision Documentary Part 1 Watch part 2 here: In this crass and eye-opening documentary, they slice deep into the reasons we Americans use to justify routine involuntary amputations will be considered. Advocates and opponents alike are brought together to debate the pros and cons of this, er, sensitive topic. Everything from aesthetics to religion to STDs are discussed candidly as they delve into this controversial topic. You may be surprised to learn that this amputation isn't usually even considered by Christian and secular couples in most other modernized areas of the world, like all of Europe for example. As educators in the video point out: "Not one national or international medical association in the world recommends infant circumcision." Even the American Academy of Pediatrics leans toward the no-cut argument: "The benefits are not sufficient...to recommend that infant boys be circumcised." And yet why do we Americans do this(and only we Americans practice secular infant foreskin amputation to the majority of our babies)? We do it because of the many culturally indoctrinated beliefs about foreskin we have, such that it is ugly, disease-prone or useless. As one OBGYN interviewed for the show, said: "The foreskin in an adult male, uh, is similar to the appendix." My point exactly! It's not needed...let's cut it off! While we're at it, perhaps we could remove the gallbladder or the pinkie toe. I mean, as infants, if they're not going to remember it anyhow, let's just go in and ...
  • Circumcision Gone Wrong Without his permission, part of his penis was cut off and he died. Deaths occur secondary to loss of blood or systemic infection from the circumcision wound. A few deaths are reported in the medical literature. Other medical literature discusses the frequency of those deaths. A few deaths are reported in the popular press. More here: There is reason to believe that many deaths from circumcision are attributed to other causes. For example, if a baby were to die of meningitis that was contracted through the circumcision wound, the death may be attributed to meningitis while ignoring the fact that the baby would not have had meningitis if he had not been circumcised. Doctors are highly motivated to conceal the true cause of circumcision death. Neonatal circumcision has no medical indication and is now considered to be an unnecessary non-therapeutic operation. It is unethical to carry out such operations on minors who cannot consent for themselves. Consequently, most doctors who have a baby die after a circumcision would prefer to attribute the results of his unethical operation to secondary causes, such as infection or bleeding, while ignoring the primary cause, which is the circumcision that resulted in the infection or bleeding. It is, therefore, very hard to identify the total number of deaths that occur from circumcision. One senses that one is seeing only the "tip of the iceberg," with the vast majority of deaths from circumcision being concealed ...

  • I Will Survive (Circumcision) The bris (circumcision) is a well known Jewish ritual, exercised on the 8th day of a Jewish boy's life. The practice commemorates the covenant that Abraham made with God, cutting off his penile foreskin as a gesture of faith. What is less known about the ritual is that following the incision, the circumciser (the Mohel) gargles alcohol around the infant's circumcised penis in an effort to disinfect the wounded area. He literally sticks the baby's penis in his mouth and gargles. True story. The ritual is carried out exactly as it was in the time of our biblical forefathers, because tradition is very important to Jews. This song is about my own experience as a Jewish infant, and the gargling that transpired around my bleeding penis.

  • Mike Gatto & California Lawmakers Forcing Circumcision On Children - AB_768 Hearing, Part 1 of 2 VIEW PART 2 HERE: youtu.be [Please visit for more information on fighting AB_768] In February 2011, California Assemblymen Mike Gatto and Fiona Ma introduced a state bill, AB_768, which would endorse infant circumcision (for boys only) as having "a wide array of health benefits," despite vast scientific evidence (and common sense) to the contrary. It would be the first ever bill to give favored legal status to forced genital cutting... • Ban Infant Circumcision in Massachusetts - Ron Low resents having been circumcised As the Massachusetts legislature reviews the MGM Bill to outlaw all non-therapeutic genital cutting, I'd like the lawmakers to know that I very much resent the fact that a valuable sensual part of my healthy body was amputated without my consent. I am a man who is fully capable of making my own rational choices about which cosmetic amputations to endure, based on the evidence presently available. Yet I can't make the circumcision decision because someone made it for me, LONG before it was relevant to my life, while I was a healthy normal infant. The only possible justification for cutting soon after birth would be to reduce risk of urinary tract infections (if conflicting data can be trusted at all) in the first year of life, yet girls get more UTI than any group of boys and we treat those cases with antibiotics, never looking for something to amputate. Most of the world does not circumcise, and where caregivers know how to treat an infant's foreskin the UTI "advantage" is not observed. I would certainly never elect circumcision as a means of disease prevention. For one thing, I know that most of the US men who have died of AIDS were circumcised at birth, so whatever circumcision's effect, I must still use safer *** practices every time. Secondly, the foreskin is so nerve laden and so valuable for normal ***ual stimulation that I wouldn't want to live without it unnecessarily. • Spock on Infant Circumcision In the 1940s and 1950s circumcision became quite common. By the 1960s, 90 percent of all male newborns in the United States were being circumcised as routine procedure. Ten years later, however, opinion among doctors swung away from the belief that certain groups of women developed cancer of the cervix because their husbands were uncircumcised. It was concluded that the cause was actually lack of good male hygiene - which is not as much of a problem in this country as it is in some other parts of the world. Also, by the early 1970s, more physicians - though not all - were aware of the psychological harm that could come from circumcision after infancy, and circumcision of an older child was not suggested as frequently as in the past. Read his article on how he changed his mind here: In 1971 a task force of the American Academy of Pediatrics concluded that there is no medical reason to recommend routine circumcision, and I voiced the same opinion in the 1976 revision of Baby and Child Care. I hoped that the controversy would then be settled once and for all. But today, there are again some physicians who favor routine circumcision because they are of the opinion (not substantiated by solid scientific proof) that circumcision will decrease, at least to a small degree, the risk of contracting various venereal diseases in adulthood. But many physicians, myself included, are unconvinced. One recent study did indicate that urinary tract ...
  • Circumcision is Mutilation "Medicalized circumcision began during the 1800s to prevent masturbation, which was believed to cause disease." - Male Circumcision has not been viewed as a medical necessity for over 30 years, yet there is a taboo around pubic debate over the procedure (which happens to be the #1 most common operation performed in the United States). Not one single president in the past 30 years has given this outdated barbarous practice any attention. This subject needs to be addressed from the point of view of the average person of childbearing age. Medical professionals can continue arguing, but since practically no medical organization on this planet considers circumcision necessary it must become a serious topic for debate. It has been a widespread unquestioned case of Ritualistic Sacrifice in our Society for far too long! Only 20% of males on the planet are circumcised. In our country circumcised males are the majority, but we are the minority worldwide... WHY? 1999 American Academy of Pediatrics, Circumcision Policy Statement: "Existing scientific evidence... [is] not sufficient to recommend routine neonatal circumcision."

  • Circumcised First Baby... This wasn't an easy decision in my house when I found out I was having a boy. I gave birth in March. In January, we "accidentally" discovered we were having a boy. We're a blended family, and daddy already had two girls, and I have one son. He had never had to decide whether to circumcise before; I had. A few weeks after reading this joyous news (boys sure are nice!), the circumcision decision came into the picture. We always knew we had a 50/50 chance of a boy, and therefore discuss circumcision. But until we knew E was a baby boy, it was something we'd face later. I think Daddy assumed I'd go with his wishes because Heck! Dad's a boy! My son's a boy! Dad knows best! And I think that may be the assumption of many men. For many women, as well. They let it happen because "daddy wants it done." But I'd given birth to and raised a son for a couple years on my own. And circumcision absolutely never entered my mind for him. My nephews aren't circumcised. Neither are over 40% of boys born today. That didn't convince daddy. Honestly, while sparing a bit of our privacy, I will say that this argument was a tearful one. Dad believed what many dads believe: that he'll be made fun of, he'll look "different" in the locker room, he wouldn't "look like me," he'd be at risk for infections. These are all common beliefs. And from experience, it's difficult to come up with the counterpoint to the "look like me" statement, because when you do, your partner may feel that you don't like the ...
  • Uncircumcised versus Circumcised Baby Care(ie still has foreskin or lacking foreskin) Pediatrician answers: How do I clean my baby's genitalia? Should I retract it myself? We Americans have been indoctrinated with the belief that whole babies require inordinate amounts of cleaning. Is this really true? How to properly care for your uncut baby(It's easy!): Protecting your Uncut Son from Medical Personnel: Reversing the epidemic of forcible retractions: .au FAQs About Foreskin Care: How do I care for my young son's intact penis? The intact penis needs no special care. The foreskin should never be retracted by force. During the first few years of a male's life, the inside fold of his foreskin is attached to his glans, very much the way the eyelids of a newborn kitten are sealed closed. The tissue that connects these two surfaces dissolves naturally over time - a process that should never be hurried. The foreskin can be retracted when its inside fold separates from the glans and its opening widens. This usually happens by age 18. Even if the glans and foreskin separate by themselves in infancy, the foreskin still may not be retractable then because the opening of a baby's foreskin may be just large enough to allow for the passage of urine. The first person to retract a child's foreskin should be the child himself. A very young boy usually pulls his foreskin outward. This is normal and natural and no cause for concern; he won't hurt himself. Once a boy discovers that his ...

  • American Academy of Pediatrics on Circumcision After reviewing 40 years worth of medical studies, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Task Force on Circumcision concluded that the "potential medical benefits of newborn male circumcision... are not sufficient to recommend routine neonatal circumcision." While this 1999 policy may be revised soon, it is still the current official recommendation for parents and doctors. This report is also the first time the AAP has acknowledged(after decades of doctors mindlessly repeating the belief that babies don't feel significant pain) that circumcision without anesthesia is traumatic and if circumcision is to be done, anesthesia should be used. Here are some highlights from the report: Role of Hygiene "there is little evidence to affirm the association between circumcision status and optimum penile hygiene." STDs including HIV "behavioral factors appear to be far more important than circumcision status." Penile Cancer "in a developed country such as the United States, penile cancer is a rare disease and the risk of penile cancer developing in an uncircumcised man, although increased compared with a circumcised man, is low." Urinary Tract Infections "breastfeeding was shown to have a threefold protective effect on the incidence of UTI in a sample of uncircumcised infants. However, breastfeeding status has not been evaluated systematically in studies assessing UTI and circumcision status." meaning that the earlier UTIs studies results were confounded. Even if their numbers were ...
  • No Circumcision Okay, this one is going to piss some people off, but so be it. Circumcision is an issue in motherhood if you are going to have a son. For most issues I can find common ground, but not this one. I'm dead set against it, and in this tad longer-than-usual vlog, I say why. For more info on this subject, go to .
  • Why would researchers think circumcision would prevent HIV? UPDATE! Found this study from '07 that shows HIV is stopped by Langerin. It's possible that CIRCUMCISION MAKES IT EASIER TO ACQUIRE HIV by getting rid of Langerin. check out this page: A breakdown of how BAD the studies really are: The details behind why some say circumcision prevents HIV. I mean, the WHY is anyone's guess... (justification of their own status, perhaps? Striving for research funds?) but there is a theory or two back there that they aren't even confident enough about to make as known as their results. The US has conducted an ongoing study on the impact of circumcision on std and hiv rates and the result is that we have HIGHER rates than many places that do NOT circumcise. Hmmmmmmm.........
  • Circumcision ban bill To circumcise or not to circumcise? It's a question parents of baby boys have to decide but now there's a discussion on Beacon Hill that would take that choice away from parents in this state. State lawmakers will debate a bill today that would make it illegal for parents to circumcise boys, unless there's a medical reason. It would ban the procedure on any male under the age of 18 even for religious reasons. Under the legislation, people who disregard the ban would face a fine and possible 14-year prison sentence. The proposal classifies male circumcision as genital mutilation and supporters of the bill say male infants can't possible consent to the procedure. They testified here on Beacon Hill, calling circumcision unethical at its core. The Centers for Disease Control says lack of circumcision has been linked to ***ually transmitted diseases, urinary tract infections and penile cancer. In the US, common complications include minor bleeding and infection. The CDC doesn't recommend either way, preferring to leave the decision up to the person and their parents. Here in Massachusetts, some say there are bigger issues at hand for lawmakers.
  • Circumcision Damage There are lots of different types of damage that occur from circumcision, whether or not it is considered a 'success'. Here are a couple that are usually overlooked. By the way, when a baby dies due to a circumcision, it is usually blamed on something else, like bleeding or infection, which is why it is so hard to get statistics for death by circumcision. It is estimated at over 100 per year in the US!
  • The Doctors: Daytime Talk Show Disaster Daytime television talk shows have never been known for giving the most reliable information to the public. A show called "The Doctors" is no exception. I'm going to go over a segment of the show that aired on the 12th of January 2011. The segment is about the proposed circumcision ban in San Francisco California. This bill would ban non-consensual genital cutting of minors when there is no immediate medical necessity. This bill is intended to protect minors, and does not ban medically necessary or adult consensual surgeries. The clip begins with Doctor Drew Ordon making a horrible case for his position. Dr. Drew, you will henceforth be known as Doctor Fallacy. Let's begin. ------------------------ Special thanks to Sam of Gallifrey for help gathering sources and arguments. • Routine Infant Circumcision Infant circumcision is a very controversial and emotionally charged topic. Even doctors have their personal feelings about the procedure — and unfortunately, they do not all agree. A doctor advising circumcision of a healthy infant for any reason is going against the recommendations of the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) and every other medical association in the world. For the Pros, Cons and Truth of Infant Circumcision, visit: Circumcision removes vital skin structure and function. The foreskin is not just unnecessary skin. It is an important, complex structure that contains an elaborate network of nerve endings, making up about half of the erogenous tissue of the penis. The foreskins purpose during infancy is to protect the glans (the part of the penis inside the foreskin) from infections from urine and feces. In adulthood, it enhances ***ual pleasure due to the intact erogenous tissue and provides lubrication for the mans ***ual partner. Circumcision violates infants rights. Before deciding on circumcision you may want to consider your sons rights. An article published in Humane Health Care International explains that circumcision of infants is a violation of the seven principles of medical ethics. Following the United Nations Convention on the Rights of ...
  • Circumcision Circumcision predates the religious ceremonies with which it is associated. Are there reasonable cases for and against routine male infant circumcision? I think there are. I don't have a strong position on either side of this discussion. It's one of those intensely personal choices, and I don't think it can be reduced to a simple yes or no answer. In responding, please observe three requests: 1. No overly emotive language, no pure pathos appeals. 2. Please back claims of fact with citation. Anything that can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. 3. Be creative, not vulgar, in your language. Please. Citations (and the script) can be found here:

  • Jewish Circumcision: Cutting with Tradition This sensitive documentary follows two Jewish couples, one in America and one in Israel. For more on circumcision from a jewish persepctive: Generally, we circumcise our sons without really knowing the effects of what we are doing. We prefer to think of circumcision as a trivial matter. We believe that because it has been done for so many years by so many, that it must be harmless. This book eloquently and effectively questions these assumptions. For the first time, Questioning Circumcision: A Jewish Perspective provides the Jewish community with a clear, rational, and sensitive examination of this practice. Dr. Goldman discusses all the aspects of Jewish circumcision that would be of interest to most Jews. I learned a lot from reading this book. In recent years researchers have discovered much about infants and the effects of surgical procedures on them. (Whether there is a religious ritual or not, circumcision is a surgical procedure.) There is also evidence that infant circumcision can have long-term effects lasting even into adulthood. Dr. Goldman presents this new information in a lucid, well-documented discussion. Questioning Circumcision: A Jewish Perspective is not just the view of one person. It contains the words of dozens of Jews, including rabbis past and present, who question circumcision. There are many compelling statements made by those who have witnessed circumcisions and have been circumcised. Their words and feelings give us ...

  • Circumcised at 18 I got circumcised when i was 18 and it has been a complete Nightmare since then. There really are no words to explain how traumatizing & devastating this has been. I did it because of various stupid insecure reasons (got made fun of in school, was told it would be a lot better etc..) not knowing at all the Hell i was getting myself into. Being young & naive i did not look into the dark history or anything else about circumcision thinking that they would tell me everything i needed to know. I also didn't know that it was really only done in America for the most part. Well if i only knew then what i know now.... I did it strictly for the look (just to fit in) and of course the doctor did not let me know anything at all or tell me any of the consequences (which is their responsibility to do if they are operating on someone and someone's life is in their hands). I actually was told that I would have more feeling & sensation which I know now is the biggest Lie in the world Ever. I still can't believe that they told me that. After they did it i basically had no sensation or feeling at all in my penis. I knew something was completely not right but i thought if i just waited maybe things would change but it only got worse. I was in total denial for a long while because i didn't want to believe that things were as bad as they were. One day reality hit me though. And it hit me hard. As hard as it was i knew i had to stop being in denial to move on and heal. When i called up the ...

  • Intact or Circumcised? Does it matter if someone is circumcised or not?...I mean, when you get right down to it, you either love someone the way they are or you don't. Most men didn't choose to be circumcised, so I wonder...would it be fair to choose an intact male over a circumcised one?
