Chest workout: backpack pushups This is part two of my advanced pushup series. I will be doing 5 different types of advanced pushups and then I will combine them into one heck-of-a-chest workout. The backpack pushup allows you to work out your chest much harder than with a normal pushup. This is NOT a beginners exercise, it is for advanced bodybuilders only. If you have not been lifting for at least 6 months, dont even consider doing this because you will most likely get injured. There are several other unique exercises in my advanced pushup series that I will be putting up individually also. Chest Workout: Pushups for the Complete Beginner In my opinion, pushups are the #1 best exercise you can do! They are simple to do and are a great upper body workout for the complete beginner or the advanced bodybuilder. You can get a complete upper body workout by combining these pushups with crunches and pullups, all of which can be done easily at home. Start by doing knee pushups. If you can do more than 20 of these then they are too easy for you and you should do full pushups. We want to start slowly to avoid injury, the first two weeks you will only do this workout once a week: do as many pushups as you can without rest (a set) rest 2 minutes repeat two more times (three sets total) If your joints and muscles feel ok, you can slowly increase the frequency and duration of your pushup workouts until you are doing pushups 3x/week for 20minutes. When you get to the point where you can do more than 20 pushups in all your sets, then its time to move on to a more advanced workout. Please see my website for some suggestions. The reason many people dont get started in bodybuilding is that it seems to complex and intimidating, thats why I recommend starting out with just pushups and with daily walking (10-30min). chest workout Check here for updates: Chest is going to be one of the larger muscle groups in the body. It's a compound exercise because it also works out your shoulders, your back, and arms. You also use your legs to stabilize yourself. Warm up good and get your blood flowing before lifting heavy to prevent injuries since there's different muscle groups involved. I also do the barbell on some days but I'm showing you guys dumbbell workouts and typical machines most gyms will have. You will have to balance the dumbbell more than barbell which will build more on your wrist/ forearms. It will help you lift the bar easier. Also you wont need a spotter as you would need for the barbell to use heavier weights. Anyways its 100 degrees in this gym and there's no air conditioning so it's hard to lift here. lol Couple things to remember: Flat dumbbell press - Start off light since it's the beginning of the workout and increase gradually. -Keep your feet on the ground and spread out to maintain balance. - Place the dumb bell closer to your body so when you roll back you're ready to push the weight upright. -Try to go low as you can - If you want to target more on your chest; don't fully extend your bench as it will work out more on your triceps. This will also help if you're going heavier and if your muscles give out you can always drop the dumbbell to the side. Advanced Killer Home Chest Workout Here is an advanced chest workout you can do at home with a cheap dumbbell set. Big gyms are nice but when you can get a killer workout at home without the overhead of getting to and from the gym. This workout is a complete 70 minute workout and consists of four supersets. superset 1: incline dumbbell press and flys superset 2: dumbbell press from the hip and thumbs up flys superset 3: incline flys and ultrawide pushups superset 4: pushups, flys, and dumbbell press We will do each superset three times and take 2-3 minutes rest between. Use a weight that lets you do 5-7 reps with good form. This is an intense workout and this is not meant to be used every week, just do this workout now and then to shake things up. By the way, I'm not a very original or creative person, I get all the ideas for my mock-infomercials from real-life ads - isnt that scary? This is a hip-pushup. It is very intense because almost 100% of your bodyweight is on your chest and almost none is on your feet. Killer Home Chest Workout Here is a great chest workout you can do at home with a cheap dumbbell set. Big gyms are nice but when you can get a killer workout at home without the overhead of getting to and from the gym. In this chest workout we are going to do pushups, then with no rest immediately do flys, then with no rest immediately do dumbbell press. Make sure and use a much lighter weight than you usually would on the flys and dumbbell press because after the pushups you wont have much left in you. After doing this set of three exercises, wait 2-5 minutes and do it again. Do 5-8 sets like this and you will be sore the next day. As with all dumbbell exercises,form is key if you want to maximize your muscle building efforts and minimize the chance of injury. Don't use too much weight, if you can't do the exercise slowly then you need to go lighter. Count aloud "one onethousand, two onethousand, three onethousand" on the way up and the way down, if you cant do this on this exercise then you are using too much weight. The reason this exercise method maximizes your muscle growth is because it confines the motion to the muscle you are trying to work out, if your body squirms, swings, and kicks, all you are doing is taking the focus away from the muscle you are trying to exercise. Best Chest Workout Weight Training Exercises It's Lee Hayward here with a complete chest and shoulder weight training workout routine. Hardly a day goes by that I don't get at least one e-mail from someone asking how they can build a big muscular chest. Well in this video clip I'm going to share one of my all time favourite chest workouts for fast muscle gains. I like to start my chest workouts with a big basic compound power exercise. Usually some form of the bench press. In this video I'm doing the barbell bench press but I'll sometimes use dumbbells or incline bench presses instead. When doing bench presses make sure to set up properly by expanding your chest, arching your upper back, and pulling your shoulder blades back. This will help to fully activate the chest muscles and place less strain on the shoulder joints. It's also a good idea to have a spotter with you at all times just in case you need help lifting the barbell off your chest. The next exercise that I like to do is the dumbbell flye. This exercise works the chest in the fully stretched position. I don't use heavy weights here, but rather I emphasize getting a full stretch in the pecs. I even hold the weights for a second at the bottom position to get a better stretch. You'll also notice that I only lift the dumbbells about ¾ of the way up. Going all the way up just takes the stress off the chest muscles. In the video I'm doing incline bench flyes. But sometimes I'll do flat bench flyes, or decline bench flyes to work the chest ...
