Entry: "Even the weather was Medieval! Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day! Ugh, and we LOST an hour over night! [SIGH] It is cloudy as we sail in. [SIGH] It is cool as we sail in. A big disappointment after yesterdays beautiful day at sea. [SIGH] It starts to drizzle as we disembark. It begins to pour as we make our way over to the tourist information offices to buy our DAY PASS card for Tallinn. Lovely! [SIGH] And Michael is grumpy because of it, and there is a language barrier, and a currency barrier... we were told they would take Euros, but not everywhere does. [SIGH] I headed to the loo and let them sort it out. By the time I returned, it was straightened out, I was relieved, and we were on our way out the front of the Cruise terminal and to the tram stop up the street. Again, the Day Pass Tallinn Card came to the rescue, saving us a ton of money for transport and access to the museums around town. The people looked tired and not very friendly. Suspicious even, but I guess that comes form eons of occupation, the Russians or Soviets being the last in a long line of occupiers. [Check out the Museum of Occupations at www.okupatsioon.ee .] The men were handsome, the young ones anyways.... hmmmm As we crossed the city heading ...

GARY LUCAS: PART 1 ROXY, PRAGUE 10/09/96 GARY LUCAS: PART 1 ROXY, PRAGUE 10/09/96 A fan's eye view from the balcony of the celebrated Roxy Theatre in Prague of Gary Lucas, Czech avant-vocalist Mirka Krivankova, producer/guitarist Richard "Faust" Mader, and percussionist/English horn player Jan Cambal, performing a tempestuous version of "Fire on Petrin", the penultimate cut from the Urfaust and Gary Lucas album "The Ghosts of Prague" (now available on iTunes). The evening was the highlight of an ongoing tour of the Czech Republic that Gary undertook solo in October '96 to promote the release of that album, a tour which took him to 8 cities the length and breadth of the CR, from chandeliered concert halls to sweaty underground rock clubs such as Prague's legendary Bunker.

Vienna life J Strauss on Electone HC4W organ Take your partners for a waltz around the crystal chandeliered ballrooms of Vienna in the 1800's. I'm making these videos as we're all snowed up in Britain. By the way it's all done for fun as I know my talent is limited as learnt to play way too late in life.

Entry from: Ruse, Bulgaria Entry Title: "A Tourist City Awaiting Tourists" Entry: "I must say I'm impressed with this city. So much so that it's kinda dificult to decide on an iconic pic, there are so many options. So here's my attempt from my first evening. The Central Railway Station, with its idiosyncratic mix of Neo-Classical and Socialist-Brutal architecture, provided a characterising overture whose themes resonate throughout the rest of the city. The taxi drivers, official and otherwise, were touting amongst the throng of arriving travellers in the magnificently-chandaliered , high-ceilinged, station hall. Beggars and hawkers were trying their luck with both arrivals and departees but everyone was under the watchful gaze of the burly, jack-booted, policemen patrolling the concourse with their holstered pistols conspicuously displayed. Exiting the station I noticed the landmark of the TV tower behind me, its red and white striped mast offering a fixed point of reference for the whole city. In front of the concourse is a nice simple street map with the main places-to-visit graphically highlighted. I now knew exactly where I was in relation to my hotel - under the underpass and follow the main road, keeping the TV tower behind me. A final taxi tout attemped to get my business - I pointed out, "I ...

"Yangtze River, 3 Gorges Cruise" Mfinney's photos around Chongqing, China Preview of Mfinney's blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Chongqing, China Entry Title: "Yangtze River, 3 Gorges Cruise" Entry: "The Three Gorges are situated along a 200km stretch of China's longest river, which at some 6300km long, is the third longest in the world. The dramatic scenery and fast flowing water along this stretch has inspired many of China's great artists and presented huge challenges for those who have had to navigate the twist and turns of this dangerous river for centuries. Regarded as one of the greatest scenic attractions in China, we had to do it especially before 2009, when the new Three Gorges Damn is expected to be fully operational and the water levels rise the remaining 40 out of a total of 113 meters... The horror stories we had heard from fellow travellers about the state of the tour boats and their onboard accommodation that travel these waters meant that not surprisingly, after much research and very little persuasion we booked ourselves onto a 5* luxury liner. It was so easy. We were met at Chongqing airport by the lovely "Crystal" who whisked us off for an additional half day tour of the city at now extra charge - were we still really in China! It was great from the moment we left arrivals, not having to struggle with those 5 mandarin tones (that give the same written word 5 completely different meanings) to ...

"Of Venetian Vaporetti and Vinotecas" Kelncre's photos around Venice, Italy (travel pics) Preview of Kelncre's blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Venice, Italy Entry Title: "Of Venetian Vaporetti and Vinotecas" Entry: "We arrived in Venice mid-day and then caught the vaporetti, Venice's public transit fleet, to our hotel near St. Mark's Square. Our hotel was on one floor of a former palace with a grand chandeliered common room. After getting situated in our room, we set out for lunch. We grabbed lunch at a sandwich place a couple blocks off St. Mark's Square. Wanting to relax and take a break from all the tourists, we then proceeded to wander around the back streets of Venice, figuring it's an island so we can't get that lost. Creighton was surprised at how many dead-ends there are but he quickly adapted his navigation skills (ie started using the map). After wandering for awhile, we found a vinoteca recommended by Kelly's fabulous friend Annie. It serves 2 euro liters of wine in whatever container you bring in and also offers generous samples. We filled up a water bottle and set up for a vaporetti cruise of the Grand C****. We enjoyed seeing all of the palaces along the c**** and the obelisks placed above certain ones to denote the houses of former Venetian five-star admirals. Creighton liked the former Turkish "Fondaco" Exchange which is now the natural history museum. Kelly enjoyed the Ca' d'Oro (House of Gold) in its lacey ...

The Brixton (San Francisco) From a trio of nightlife vets looking to rock Cow Hollow, Brix's a 135-seat trend-conscious food 'n drink-purveyor with concert venue flair, including a wall of rare framed tour posters from its namesake (famous South London music venue The Brixton Academy) and blown-up concert photography from Pac Heights' now-closed 5400-seat rock arena Winterland; there're also mood-setting interior deets like flute and reed wrapped columns, a working fireplace with a mantelpiece from 1888, and brown leather banquettes/booths, but not Wilkes Booths, as those are just murder to sit in (you get ass-assinated!). There're also non-ice cream booze options at a horseshoe shaped, black crystal-chandeliered bar that'll seat 20 and serve up craftily touched-up ***tails -- created by a Taverna Aventine/Ambassador alum -- like Hendricks Gin Basil Rickey and The Ernest (Matusalem rum, Maraschino liqueur, grapefruit, simple syrup), plus 35 vino varieties and 23 beers (10 on tap, 13 bottled) ranging from Mirror Pond to Alaskan Amber, not to be confused with ...
