  • The Agonist- Globus Hystericus (with lyrics) Lullabies for the Dormant Mind (2009) What says the tree to his friends the rocks? When he lives and breathes and they sit and mock And he grows strong for centuries long But finally dies and begins to rot 'We will last intact this way! And you my friend will soon decay' 'But i can breathe - am commensal; the shade, the fruits, the nests on bough And if, with this, my time finite I'm glad to have spent it doing right' But rocks prefer to simply sit To win none, lose none, just exist But nary should an ocean rise, They'd become sand and dissapear with the tides When trees ignite a cyclical life From plant to animal to Earth and back; Whom, even when their roots are plowed Have left exponential impact Steel, concrete, technology (etc) May stand intact for centuries I say with actions... But faced with wind, flood or quake Like toys will crumble, bend and break ... what you do with words And so the greedy human kind To conquer trees tall, mountains high Erects gigantic splinters of steel That shame forests, make mountains kneel And progress spreads like moss on stone Evolution dictates that men are prone To outdo those that came before 'You see? We'll last forever more!' We improve what nature made We'll challenge mountains, transplant lakes There is no confirmed master plan We do it just because we can But foolish is the one who Complacently thinks himself King Because when time erodes the past What remains are nature's things Quite Shakespearean duals Those between parent ...

  • The Enigma Of Capital - Professor David Harvey - Part 1 - London School of Economics For three centuries the capitalist system has shaped western society and conditioned the lives of its people. Capitalism is cyclical and increasingly bankrupt. Boom-and-bust is its model. Laying bare the follies of the international financial system, eminent academic David Harvey looks at the nature of capitalism and why it's time to call a halt to its unbridled excesses. He examines the vast flows of money that surge round the world in daily volumes well in excess of the sum of all its economies. He looks at the cycles of boom and bust in the world's housing and stock markets and shows that periodic episodes of meltdown are not only inevitable in the capitalist system but essential to its survival. The essence of capitalism is its amorality and lawlessness and to talk of a regulated, ethical capitalism is to make a fundamental error. The Enigma of Capital considers how crises of the current sort can best be contained within the constraints of capitalism, and makes the case for a social order that would allow us to live within a system that really could be responsible, just, and humane. David Harvey is Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at the City University of New York Graduate School and former Professor of Geography at Johns Hopkins and Oxford Universities. The author of numerous books, he was awarded the Patron's Medal of the Royal Geographical Society in 1995 and elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2007. He is the world's most cited academic ...
  • Hubble Black Hole Probe From HubbleCast. For centuries, scientists imagined objects so heavy and dense that their gravity might be strong enough to pull anything in, including light. They would be, quite literally, a black hole in space. But it's only in the past few decades that astronomers have conclusively proved their existence. Today, Hubble lets scientists measure the effects of black holes, make images of their surroundings and glean fascinating insights into the evolution of our cosmos. In science fiction, black holes are often portrayed as some kind of menacing threat to the safety of the whole Universe, like giant vacuum cleaners that somehow suck up all of existence. Now, in this episode, we're going to separate the fiction from the facts and we're going to look at the real science behind black holes and how Hubble has contributed to it. Black holes come in different sizes. We've had solid evidence for the smaller ones since the 1970s. These form when a huge star explodes at the end of its life. As the outer layers are blown away, the star's core collapses in on itself forming an incredibly dense ball. For instance, a black hole with the same mass as the Sun would have a radius of only a few kilometers. Before Hubble was launched, astronomers had noticed that the centers of many galaxies were somehow much denser and brighter than they were expected to be. And so they speculated that there must be some kind of huge, massive objects lurking in the centers of these galaxies in order to ...

  • Afghanistan fighting off invading empires for centuries Afghanistan was the subject of a public meeting which took place on the 30th of March of this year, in which several people addressed the meeting, with some discussion and questions about the situation in Afghanistan. This is a film of the meeting (part 1 of 3), which was held in the Govanhill district, and among the speakers was 23-year-old campaigner against imperialism, racism and fascism since the age of 16, James, who told of how, when he was younger, he tried to understand what was going on in Afghanistan, why the country was in such a bad position prior to the invasion as well as at the present time, and he began to take a keen interest in the country. He met several refugees from Afghanistan and found them to have a better understanding of the real world and governments' motivations than most people in Britain, despite the backward image that the western media likes to paint of the Afghan people. He goes on to explain why there is an economic backwardness although the people themselves are far from backward. He explains how throughout history various empires have seen Afghanistan as a desirable land to acquire because of its useful position on the globe. For centuries one empire after another has been invading and trying to take over the country and has become like a graveyard for the last few centuries. Afghan people have been constantly getting attacked and killed by foreign invaders from the British to the Russians and now the Americans with the help of Britain ...

Tumuli Park is one of the most mysterious places in the Gyeongju region and the grass covered hills that rise from the landscape are the royal tombs of the Silla epoch. Containing several buildings, the National Museum in Gyeongju boasts one of the finest collections of Korean works of art. Most of the archaeological finds were made in various royal tombs and due to the large number of exhibits, the museum has had to be enlarged. • (9/17) The Sunni Belief over the Centuries - Islam Among The Sunniyy Scholars of the 7th Century is Imam Fakhrud-Din ar-Raziyy who died in the hijri year 606 AH. He said In his book of the explanation of the Quran known as 'at-Tafsir al-Kabir': Regarding the verse { وهو العلي العظيم } it is impossible for the meaning of the word '^Aliyy', when attributed to Allah, to refer to aboveness in terms of an upward direction or place. Hence, this mandates that the meaning of the word '^Aliyy' is that Allah is high in status and degree and is clear of resembling the creation. Furthermore In his book 'Mulhat al-I^tiqad' Shaykh ^Izzud-Din Ibn ^Abdis-Salam who died in the hijri year 660, said: Allah is not a body and thus Has no form, He is not an entity and thus Has no measured limits. He does not resemble anything and nothing resembles Him. The six directions do not contain Him, nor do the earths and skies enclose Him. He existed eternally before creating the creations. He created time, and He still exists as He eternally was (ie without a place). This is --the belief- that the muslim sunni scholars unanimously follow!! ALLAH EXISTS WITHOUT A PLACE.

  • Incorrupt Bodies of the Saints part 5 Incorruptibles - These type of preserved bodies started being discovered back in the early centuries after Christ, though surprisingly, they do not fall into either the accidental or deliberate preservation categories. The causes for "incorruptibles" remaining free of decomposition have baffled scientists to this day. These bodies are discovered in many different environments, including environments that would typically cause an accidental or deliberately preserved corpse to decompose rapidly. They remain free of decay regardless of manner of burial, delay in burial, temperature, moisture, rough handling, frequent transference, having been covered in quicklime (a decaying agent), or proximity to other decaying corpses. They cannot be explained by science or reason. Some common characteristics of an incorrupt body: Incorruptibles are typically found lifelike, moist, flexible, and contain a sweet scent that many say smells like roses or other flowers, for years after death. Incorruptibles are almost never embalmed or treated in any way due to the religious order's beliefs that the person came from. Incorruptibles remain free of decay, some for centuries, despite circumstances which normally cause decay such as being exposed to air, moisture, other decaying bodies, or other variables such as quicklime, which is typically applied to a corpse to accelerate decomposition. Incorruptibles many times contain clear, flowing oils, perspiration, and flowing blood for years after ...
