Bibio - Lover's Carvings - Cut Lovers' names, carved in walls Overlap, start to merge Some of them underneath Maybe they appear In graveyards Maybe they fade away Weathered and overgrown Time has told Meaningful hidden words Suddenly appear, from the murk Maybe they're telling us That the end Never was Never will The words have gone But the meaning will never disappear From the wall ... :))

Betty's Watermelon Basket with Melon Salad (Basket Carved by Rick) In this video, Betty and Rick demonstrate how to carve a watermelon to make a basket for holding melon salad. We used watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon for the salad, but you can add or substitute any fruits that you like better, 1 ripe medium-sized round, seedless watermelon 1 ripe cantaloupe 1 ripe honeydew melon Use a sharp knife to carefully carve the watermelon, so that it is in the form of a basket with a handle. Save the meat of the watermelon, in large chunks. Do not use the handle for carrying the watermelon. Place the watermelon in a close-fitting Pyrex dish. Now peel the cantaloupe and honeydew melon, and chop the meat of the watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon into edible wedge-shaped pieces. Fill the watermelon basket until it is mounded up toward the handle. Then place the remainder of the cut-up melon in a large clear bowl for serving separately or for replenishing the watermelon basket when it is low. This is a great treat to take to a potluck dinner or a brunch. It is very pretty, but also tasty and healthy! Enjoy!!!

Carving a Bald Headed Woodspirit Walking Stick This is an interesting woodspirt that I recently carved on the top of a nice sourwood stick. The top few inches of the stick were slightly twisted and thus added a nice look to the woodspirit face. I finished the carving with thinned down acrylic paints layered on and sealed with with Krylon spray sealer. After an antique wash using watered down burnt umber acrylic paint, I used gloss polyurethane as the final sealer. Always think "Safety First" when carving wood no matter how much experience you have. Always wear a good cut resistant glove such as those made from kevlar on the non-carving hand and if you're not using a table clamp or vise then always use a lap board to protect your legs. Thanks for being safe and have fun learning to carve. This video is also being used for a current entry on carving woodspirits at my blog: Music "Thingamajig" is royalty free and courtesy of Jason Shaw http

Grand Canyon carved by floodwater -- debunked! The Grand Canyon is such an icon of the Earth's geological history, of slow and steady uplift, erosion, submergence and deposition, that the creationist crowd thought it essential to tackle it head on. So they have come up with an explanation as to how it might have got there in a world created only 6000 years ago. Their attempts to squeeze this majestic testament to natural processes into bronze age mythology are not just clumsy, they're the stuff good comedy is made of. I regret that I have been unable to answer messages for the past few weeks; a situation that will continue until after the Golden Crocoduck has been awarded in October. I'm traveling for the next three months. But I have a couple of videos in the pipeline, including one for my Potholer54 channel, and the Golden Crocoduck nominees run-through on this channel.

Now we use them to lure little ghosts and goblins to our home—but the technique remains the same. To complete this How-To you will need: A pumpkin A sharp knife A crayon or marker A large spoon or ice cream scooper And a small candle, glow stick, or battery-operated light Salt Baking sheet A carving template A thumbtack And petroleum jelly Step 1: Choose pumpkin Choose a pumpkin that's large and smooth with a stem of at least 2". If you plan to put a candle inside, choose a gourd that's at least 9" tall. Tip: Pumpkins with smaller stems rot quickly. Step 2: Draw circle or hexagon Draw a circle or hexagon on the top of the pumpkin an inch or two below the stem. Don't worry if it's not perfect, but make sure it's a little bigger than your fist. Step 3: Carve through pattern Carve through the pattern with a sharp knife—which requires less force, and is therefore safer. Angle your cut so the top of your circle is wider than the bottom, which will ensure that the top fits snugly in place. Step 4: Remove top & clean out Remove the top and clean out ...

Treeblip Wands - Hand carved Harry Potter style wands These are a collection of hand whittled, hand painted and hand finished Harry Potter style wands. The are by me, a wandmaker who makes wands for 'Treeblip Wands' - a wand making title I made up for myself. No Dremel or any other electric tool was used to make these wands. They have all been designed and hand carved from scratch. I sketched the design ideas before I started carving. I made the collection on my 7 month backpacking trip around Europe in 2010. I gathered the timber from different countries around the continent and whittled and painted as I went along in my spare time. Most of the timber the wands are made from are featured in the Harry Potter books. Please feel free to comment, ask questions or subscribe. How To Carve A Simple Woodspirit Face: Part 2 Part 2 (of2) This woodspirit is a great first carving project for the beginning woodcarver and can be considered as an entry-level into faces. I've been using this simple and basic woodspirit face for many years as a teaching tool for helping the students in my woodshop class learn the elements of carving their own. I've been continiously amazed at how so many of my students actually grasp the concept of carving faces as they have produced some wonderful creations of their own over the years. It just takes a lot of practice and a strong desire to "get there". After presenting some basic information on the different types of cuts most students can use one of my woodspirit learning sticks and do a fairly good job. If you decide to give it a try don't expect to have a masterpiece on the first few attempts. When I first started carving faces in wood I wasn't satisfied until about my 30th one! Carving faces takes a lot of time, patience, and practice. Study peoples faces while you are at work, at home, or at play and try to understand how all the parts fit together. As I mentioned in the video first carve the nose and the eyes, then base everything else around that and you will be well on your way. The woodspirit produced in this video was carved from a 1" X 1" piece of basswood. Perhaps in another video I will demonstrate how I carve a woodspirit with more detail such as raised eyebrows, eyes, teeth, tongues, and a variety of emotion and facial expressions. However it is very ...

Pumpkin carving tips - How to carve a pumpkin for Halloween Just in time for Halloween, here are some great ideas for pumpkin carving AND some tips for making your pumpkin last longer after it's carved, courtesy of Howdini guru of fun Bruce Littlefield. How to carve a pumpkin Tips for choosing a pumpkin for carving: * When selecting the perfect pumpkin, look for a nice plump round shape with a rich, orange color. Make sure at least one side of the pumpkin is blemish-free, which will become the side that is carved. You can find pumpkins at a grocery store or pick your own from a pumpkin patch. Prepare a workspace for pumpkin carving: * Cover your work surface with newspaper. * Gather all of your supplies: - Pumpkin - Newspaper - Long, thin bladed knife for making large cuts (such as the lid) - Paring knife for detailed carving - Ice cream scoop or large spoon - Votive candle Creating a pumpkin carving design: * Draw your design on a piece of paper, shading in the sections that will be cut away from the pumpkin. This will serve as a stencil for carving. * Attach the stencil to the pumpkin with thumbtacks. * Mark the outline of the stencil into the pumpkin with the tines of a fork. This allows you to pierce through the paper to transfer the pattern onto the pumpkin. * Once the pumpkin carving pattern has been marked with a fork, mark the pattern again with a pen. Marking the pattern with a pen makes it easier to follow the pattern when carving. Carving the Jack O' Lantern lid: * Make sure to slice into the pumpkin on ...
