Night Carrier Approach and Landing This author's own approach to the USS Carl Vinson. Thousands of miles out to sea - a night instrument approach and landing during Nimitz class aircraft carrier operations - one of the most demanding tasks in all of aviation. Landing on an air craft carrier is a challenge, but a generator failure made the pass and this vid a little more interesting (hardly by design). Comm was wired directly from my oxygen mask whilst flying the approach and landing aboard the USS Carl Vinson on the Indian Ocean. The dimly lit ship is barely a speck in the night at about three miles (time 1:22). Warning tones are (1) radar altimeter (set to 1200' and 375') and (2) a rapid warning tone from the radar altimeter due to a generator failure. LSO calls for "Wing lights," which were lost due to the electrical malfunction (unknown to LSO). Expeditious emergency procedures for an electrical failure to regain lost electrical buses were completed while performing demanding tasks involved in landing a jet aboard the pitching deck of an aircraft carrier at night. "Where do we get such men? They leave this ship and they do their job. Then they must find this speck lost somewhere on the sea. When they find it, they have to land on its pitching deck. Where do we get such men?" - Rear Admiral George Tarrant 1954; in James Michener's "The Bridges at Toko-Ri"
Landing on an Aircraft Carrier In this clip, taken from the film Speed and Angels, watch as Jay and Meagan land an F-14 Tomcat on an aircraft carrier. Thanks to unprecedented access granted by the Navy, Director Peyton Wilson captured and created the most intimate film ever made on fighter pilots. Inspired by the passion of two young Navy officers she encountered, Peyton followed Jay and Meagan as they chased their childhood dream of becoming naval aviators flying the F-14 Tomcat. Their two and a half year journey takes them through dogfights in the Nevada desert, night landings on aircraft carriers off the Atlantic coast, and eventually to the biggest challenge young officers face: wartime deployment to Iraq.

Condor Modular Plate Carrier: "All Day Armor" by Nutnfancy You ain't gonna' find a better Multicam LBE option for around $90 these days. At least in this most excellent Multicam variation, the Condor Modular Operator Plate Carrier or MOPC represents excellent value and quality for the money. At just 2 lbs 10 oz, it's a lightweight and contoured carrier that provides impressive comfort in wear. Credit the padding and mesh lining as well, a rarity at this price level. Quality and design throughout is generally excellent: good buckles that don't squeak (not yet at least), uniform and strong reinforced stitching, outstanding colorations (sewn Multicam MOLLE webbing provides superior camouflage vs brown nylon webbing), easy adjustment and doffing, high quality hook and loop closures, interior map pocket, hoop Velcro provided for morale patching/nametapes, perfectly sized plate pockets (that hold both soft and hard armor securely), extra MOLLE on the side, a drag loop, clean shoulder design (with buckles in back), and side pockets that expand to accommodate different size plates. Colors as of 2010 included: Multicam (shown), black, OD, Coyote Tan, and ACU. The Multicam version is licensed and features the mandated improved materials: poly coated 500 denier Cordura nylon (as opposed to lesser quality vinyl-coated nylon). The MOPC rides securely with medium loads under high exertion and is a stable rig. No interferences were noted in both pressured handgun and rifle drills. A few downsides do exist however: weak elastic band ties the ...
5.11 Large Plate Carrier: Switch Hit Ammo Carrier and Body Armor A review of a grab and go tactical load bearing system using the excellent 5.11 brand "Large Plate Carrier" as its foundation. Such as system will serve effectively in military, LEO, or WROL (Without Rule of Law) applications. This review is designed for police officers, military operators, tactical carbine or shotgun competitors, precision rifleman, and responsible civilian "sheepdogs" who just may be the only means of peacekeeping within their own neighborhoods in WROL (public services and law enforcement will be non-functional). I classify the system shown as "Overt/Covert/Light" which is descriptive of capabilities. In certain scenarios, especially WROL, it is advisable to keep your defensive weaponry under wraps and this system could do just that under a coat or jacket. In other scenarios, an overt display of tactical capabilities is advisable which could prevent the need for force. This 5.11 plate carrier can readily serve in both applications and, if outfitted with appropriatey sized magazine pouches, could have Heavy capabilities (6 or more carbine mags). Other desirable features include versatile flat dark earth color (black avail too), quick donning attachment (over the head best if reversing), zip plate carrier pockets with velcro retentions, non-interference shoulder area, high cut to accomodate a web belt, drag loop, high configuration versatility provided by expansive MOLLE webbing on both sides, and ventilated construction using high quality mesh. shown ...

US Aircraft Carrier Fleet Evolution - The Greatest Navy "City of Steel" Fleet An aircraft carrier is a warship designed with a primary mission of deploying and recovering aircraft, acting as a sea-going airbase. Aircraft carriers thus allow a naval force to project air power great distances without having to depend on local bases for staging aircraft operations. They have evolved from wooden vessels used to deploy a balloon into nuclear powered warships that carry dozens of fixed and rotary wing aircraft. Following the war, the scope of carrier operations continued to increase in size and importance. Supercarriers, typically displacing 75000 tonnes or greater, have become the pinnacle of carrier development. Most are powered by nuclear reactors and form the core of a fleet designed to operate far from home. Amphibious assault ships, such as USS Tarawa or HMS Ocean, serve the purpose of carrying and landing Marines and operate a large contingent of helicopters for that purpose. Also known as "commando carriers" or "helicopter carriers", they have a secondary capability to operate VSTOL aircraft. Lacking the firepower of other warships, carriers by themselves are considered vulnerable to attack by other ships, aircraft, submarines or missiles and therefore travel as part of a carrier battle group (CVBG) for their protection. Unlike other types of capital ships in the 20th century, aircraft carrier designs since World War II have been effectively unlimited by any consideration save budgetary, and the ships have increased in size to handle the larger ...

WW II : RARE COLOR FILM : AIRCRAFT CARRIER IN THE PACIFIC 730826LE.LON Lectures Prabhupada : If you accumulate more than your need, I also imitate to accumulate more than my need, there is competition. That competition is going on. And that is the cause of war. Those who are aware of the history, the two big wars in your Europe was started by German people because they are very much envious of the English people. The Germans, they could not do business throughout the whole British Empire. We know, Indians. So they are very much envious of these British people, and therefore they started two big wars, world war. So if we collect more... Now the British Empire is finished. So if we collect more, if you want to acquire more, then other becomes jealous. And in this way, our jealousies increase, and that is the cause of war, that is the cause of fight. But if you are satisfied with your minimum or maximum needs, nobody will be jealous. Just like an elephant is eating forty kilos of foodstuff at a time. We cannot eat even one-fourth kilo, but we are not envious of the elephant because we know he needs to eat so much. Neither the elephant is envious to us. So whatever you need you can collect, you can eat--but don't take more. Then according to the God's law, you become criminal, you are punishable. That is God's law. (break) It is a common sense. You eat; I eat. It is a common philosophy. So I must eat what I need and you must eat what you need. That's not a very big philosophical ...

The Carrier - Alcatraz The Carrier - Alcatraz Album - One Year Later Lyrics I've spent so much time imprisoned in my mind, told to shut up and sit down, to close my eyes. I realize what you've done to me, trying numbing me from the pain of the world. It's everlasting, it'll never go away, it'll never change, not today. Even sheltered lives can't hide from not feeling alive it's like throwing knives and my mind. It's like stabbing out my eyes. I mean every word that I spit, it comes from the darkness of my mind. It comes from the pain inside. I feel it all the time. Nothing will ever change, you can't change the hatred that I feel. That's a power of mine and I've realized I'm done decaying inside. I want to see better days. I want to see hope in things. I want to see a different way, to make the pain go away. I'm taking my life back, it's ***ing mine. I'm taking my life back, it's mine.

Hornet CVA-12 is the namesake of Hornet CV-8 that launched the Doolittle Raiders. CV-8 was lost in action on October 27 1942.
