  • Pediatric Spinal Curve Surgery in India under best Surgeons Finalize pediatric spinal curve surgery in India under best surgeons in the world. The surgery is performed at places like Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. The hospitals in India are coupled with state of the art technology and surgeons having wide experience in pediatric spinal surgery. A spinal fusion is simply the uniting of two bony segments, whether a fracture or a vertebral joint. The patient is positioned on the operating table in a prone position. When indicated, soft tissue and bony decompression are performed to relieve neurological compression. The incision is made over the anatomic position of the spinous process. For a degenerative spondy***sthesis case, a blunt probe is inserted through the pedicle and into the vertebral body. Once the pedicle c***s are prepared and the screw length determined, the screws are sequentially inserted. The facet joint capsules are removed and cancellous bone graft is placed into each facet joint. The transverse processes, sacral alae, and the lateral walls of the facet joints are decorticated with high-speed burs and curettes. Corticocancellous bone graft taken from the iliac crest, along with any fragments of bone taken during decompression is firmly pressed into the bone fusion bed. Once the construct has been assembled, segmental distraction and compression may be carved out. The surgical and anesthesia logical team required for the pediatric spinal surgery is available in India. Medical tourism provides excellent ...

  • Microscale Simulation Technology : Takano Group, Keio University The Takano Laboratory is developing technology for computation and simulation on microscopic scales where measurement is impossible. The Labs computing technology, developed over many years of research on micromechanics and multiscale simulations, is useful in a diverse range of fields, including biomechanics, advanced materials development, and micromachine design. One aspect of this work is medical engineering research on bones. By measuring the load on bones and teeth through simulations, this research will help to advance healthcare. Q.What were working on is medical engineering research, which considers the mechanics of bones. Specifically, it will enable people to predict the risk of fracture due to osteoporosis, and evaluate the effectiveness of drugs for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. Also, in dentistry, where implants are often used, the cancellous bone of the jaw is drilled to insert the implants. So if we can calculate the reaction force during drilling, to develop simulations that let people experience the masterly touch of a veteran dentist, we could provide ways to resolve safety issues. This research is also used to develop advanced materials for implants. The Takano Lab design s new materials by using micro CT technology, to check the 3D structure inside teeth and measure the strength of porous materials with holes of micrometer order. In the biotech field, the Lab also develop s equipment for drug delivery systems, or DDS. Tests are done on ...
  • STARCHILD: HYDROCEPHAL OR HUMAN-ALIEN HYBRID ? The starchild skull came into the possession of Lloyd Pye, a writer and lecturer in the field of alternative knowledge, in February 1999. According to Pye, the skull was found around 1930 in a mine tunnel about 100 miles (160 km) southwest of the Mexican city of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, buried alongside a normal human skeleton which was exposed and lying supine on the surface of the tunnel. The skull is abnormal in several aspects. A dentist determined, based on examination of the upper right maxilla found with the skull, that it was a child's skull, 4.5 to 5 years in age. However, the volume of the interior of the starchild skull is 1600 cubic centimeters, which is 200 cm³ larger than the average adult's brain, and 400 cm³ larger than an adult of the same approximate size. The orbits are oval and shallow, with the optic nerve c*** situated at the bottom of the orbit instead of at the back. There are no frontal sinuses. The back of the skull is flattened, but not by artificial means. The skull consists of calcium hydroxyapatite, the normal material of mammalian bone. Carbon 14 dating was performed twice, the first on the normal human skull at the University of California at Riverside in 1999, and on the Starchild skull in 2004 at Beta ***ytic in Miami, the largest radiocarbon dating laboratory in the world. Both independent tests gave a result of 900 years ± 40 years since death.DNA testing in 1999 at BOLD, a forensic DNA lab in Vancouver, British Columbia found standard X ...
  • "Creative Writing" For Dean Richardson - That Horse is Too Damn Lame.avi My Final for Equine Orthopedics course course organized by Dr. Dean Richardson. Prompt: The final examination will be a "creative writing" exercise. You must tell me a story about a horse with an orthopaedic injury. Include evidence that you understand how the injury occurred, specifically how and why it was treated and the probable outcome. You are free to use your imagination as much as you wish BUT make sure you include enough that it is clear you understand the described injury and its treatment. That Horse is Too Damn Lame I represent that horse is too damn lame party Racing a stakes quarterhorse 3 hours a day, 6 days a week, and this one in the Shue Fly Owners CAN afford to take care of their horse But giving their horse steroids for breakfast lunch and dinner My main job as a orthopedic equine veterinarian is to repair injuries caused by overworking and overextension of the fetlock. This is racing as usual, playing way too hard. But its not hurt anymore The horse is too damn lame party is here to FIX those horses with a mid-body sesamoid fracture presenting with acute lameness. If the owners elect to immediately continue racing, surgery will be required. This fractures is a challenge, but we will overcome this challenge with autogenous cancellous bone grafts from the tuber coxae. Because we strive for a smaller surgical incision and we WILL NOT enter the tendon sheath, The horse is too damn lame party will apply a lag screw fixation to the oblique fracture in the ...

  • The Structure of Bone The Structure of Bone This is the structure of bone. Spongy or cancellous bone form the center bulk of all our bones. Its honeycomb structure keeps bone light, in contrast to the heavier, compact bone, which gives it strength. Bone cells or osteocytes are contained in spaces called lacunae. The minute projections of bone cells trail into adjoining channels known as c***iculi. Tissue fluid, which fills the lacunae, allows the transfer of materials between bone cells and capillaries. Haversian systems, each about one-sixtieth of an inch wide, make up the structure of compact bone. Each system is formed by a series of rings called lamellae, which are deposits of mineral salts and collagen fibers. Haversian c***s, which run through the center of each Haversian system, contain the blood and lymphatic vessels supplying the bone. Here arteries carrying oxygenated blood are shown in red. Veins carrying deoxygenated blood are shown in blue. The lymphatic vessels are shown in white. A section through the shaft of the femur, a long bone, shows a central mass of spongy bone surrounded by the branching tubular Haversian systems. Blood vessels on the bone surface reach into the center of each Haversian system supplying the bone cells.

  • Osteoporosis Osteoporosis (or brittle bones) is an age-related disease that often leads to fractures of the hip, wrist and spine, affecting millions of people worldwide. In this vertebra we see normal, healthy cancellous bone. In time, however, osteoporosis results in resorption and reduction in the amount of cancellous bone. The weakened bone is unable to withstand physiologic loading and eventually fractures. Vertebral compression fractures can cause debilitating pain in the neck and back. Sometimes this pain is confused with muscle strain. Vertebral compression fractures can also lead to deformity as shown here. Fractures may also reduce mobility and deteriorate one's quality of life.

  • Three-dimensional tomographic reconstruction of lacuna from mouse tibia trabecula A novel hard transmission X-ray microscope ~TXM! at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource operating from 5 to 15 keV X-ray energy with 14 to 30 mm2 field of view has been used for high-resolution ~30--40 nm! imaging and density quantification of mineralized tissue. TXM is uniquely suited for imaging of internal cellular structures and networks in mammalian mineralized tissues using relatively thick ~50 mm!, untreated samples that preserve tissue micro- and nanostructure. To test this method we performed Zernike phase contrast and absorption contrast imaging of mouse cancellous bone prepared under different conditions of in vivo loading, fixation, and contrast agents. In addition, the three-dimensional structure was examined using tomography. Individual osteocytic lacunae were observed embedded within trabeculae in cancellous bone. Extensive c***icular networks were evident and included processes with diameters near the 30--40 nm instrument resolution that have not been reported previously. Trabecular density was quantified relative to rod-like crystalline apatite, and rod-like trabecular struts were found to have 51--54% of pure crystal density and plate-like areas had 44--53% of crystal density. The nanometer resolution of TXM enables future studies for visualization and quantification of ultrastructural changes in bone tissue resulting from osteoporosis, dental disease, and other pathologies.

  • calcaneal fracture closed reduction Surgery.wmv Calcaneal fracture is also known as Lover's fracture may be due to the fact that it is commonly seen in those who jump from great height so as to escape from lover's husband. see the video of closed reduction of comminuted fracture of calcaneum with articular depression by one of the great surgeons of India Dr Anurag Shukla (MS Ortho, M.Ch from UK). While doing this surgery we come to know a very important fact which may be seen sometime. On seeing the X-Ray from lateral projection articular surface seems to be normal but x-ray from medial projection showed significant articular depression, thus both projections showed different pictures. This fact becomes very important when we used to do plating in calcaneum, we almost go through lateral approach, which can be misleading as we have shown from x-ray that's why we did surgery again after seeing x - ray from medial projection.Steps of closed reduction include, first we reduced the fracture with the help of fracture reducing forceps, then we applied K-Wire so as to give temporary fixation to the calcareous pieces. After that we permanently fixed the fracture with cancellous screw. In order to give immobilization to the ankle joint we need to fix it by external fixators. In order to do it we inserted k wire in all metatarsals, calcareous and tibia bone.
