BULBS OF HOLLAND A bulb is an underground vertical shoot that has modified leaves (or thickened leaf bases) that are used as food storage organs by a dormant plant. A bulb's leaf bases generally do not support leaves, but contain food reserves to enable the plant to survive adverse conditions. The leaf bases may resemble scales, or they may overlap and surround the center of the bulb as with the onion. A modified stem forms the base of the bulb, and plant growth occurs from this basal plate. Roots emerge from the underside of the base, and new stems and leaves from the upper side. Other types of storage organs (such as corms, rhizomes, and tubers) are sometimes erroneously referred to as bulbs. The correct term for plants that form underground storage organs, including bulbs as well as tubers and corms, is geophyte. Some epiphytic orchids (family Orchidaceae) form above-ground storage organs called pseudobulbs, that superficially resemble bulbs. All plants that form true bulbs are monocotyledons, and include: Onion, garlic, and other alliums, family Alliaceae. Lily, tulip, and many other members of the lily family Liliaceae. Amaryllis, Hippeastrum, Narcissus, and several other members of the amaryllis family Amaryllidaceae. Two groups of Iris species, family Iridaceae: subgenus Xiphium (the "Dutch" irises) and subgenus Hermodactyloides (the miniature "rock garden" irises).

Light Bulbs vs. The Nanny State In September, the European Union banned the sale of 100-watt incandescent light bulbs, with lawbreakers facing up to $70000 in fines. Over the next few years, bans on lower-wattage bulbs kick in. In the United States, similar legislation comes into play in 2012. The idea is to kickstart the market for compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), which use less energy than conventional incandescents. Although CFLs present any number of problems (even beyond a much higher initial cost), governments all over the globe are determined to make them the new standard. Invented in its modern form by Thomas Edison in 1879, the light bulb became synonymous with a brilliant idea. Now, it seems, it's just one more symbol of a nanny state that increasingly dictates more choices in our public and private lives. "Light bulbs vs. The Nanny State" is produced by Meredith Bragg and Nick Gillespie. Approximately two minutes. Go to reason.tv for embed code and downloadable versions.

How To Make A Light Bulb Vaporizer - Very Easy and Quick Check out the instructions here, with an explanation and picture on how to actually USE this device. ---------------------------------- My own personal way of making a light bulb vaporizer, letting you quickly and easily change the light bulb. All you need ------------ Water Bottle Light bulb Scissors Salt Electrical tape (or duct tape) Make a removeable head joint and easily join it to a light bulb. Then when that light bulb gets nasty, easily pop the head joint onto a new one! This is my own special way of making the head joint so that it's not taped to the light bulb, but still stuck on nice! Saves alot of time being able to re-use the head joint. Vaporize in style!

Smashed halogen light bulb still works Don't try this at home! The new GE Edison and Sylvania Daylight Plus light bulbs look and act like ordinary incandescent bulbs, but actually contain a halogen capsule inside -- so they will still work even if the outer glass shell is broken, as I rather dangerously prove in this video. The Sylvania in particular uses an extremely thick outer glass shell which is very difficult to break. By the way, I highly recommend these bulbs. They are brighter than ordinary incandescent bulbs and last three times as long, without any of the disadvantages of compact fluorescent bulbs (slow turn-on and warm-up, radio interference, greenish tint, dangerous mercury contamination when broken, etc.).

Health Effects - Compact Fluorescent Bulbs Many people have reported sensitivity to Fluorescent Bulbs, and now with the compact version (CFL) set to take over in 2010 - was it really well planned? Did the industry do any tests to show the safety of the product before releasing the product? Sounds similar to the Cell Phone issue - infact it is. CFL emit high amounts of Electromagnetic radiation. People who wish to argue this fact should first get a RF meter and test it themselves beforehand. Some CFL cause the meters to go off the charts!! - even higher then Cell Phones. So what else is there on the market? LED has also been tested and has a considerably low level of emissions - far lower then anything else on the market. So why is North America been forced to buy CFL when LED was available in Europe? LED is now making its way into the regular stores - watch for it, test it, demand it. By the time 2010 bans regular bulbs you will already know the healthy choice and avoid the headaches. For those familiar with the show Myth busters, watch the episode all about testing CFL verses LED and see the comparison, LED lasted long after all the other bulbs Report by King 5 News Seatle King5 News sister station Komo4 reporter back in news with brain tumor ( studio lights are also strong )

Modern Eugenics Exposed - CFL light bulbs are poisoning us "..CFLs will make many people sick, by emitting radio frequency radiation that contributes to dirty electricity, that can cause migraines, dizziness, nausea, confusion, fatigue, skin irritations, and eye strain. Dirty electricity consists of surges of high frequency voltage and electromagnetic radiation that grossly contaminates our otherwise relatively safe 60 Hz-frequencies, and can even cause numerous serious illnesses, including autism, asthma, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, and other neurological disorders.." spktruth2 Is it too hard to believe that modern eugenics could actually be happening right under our very noses? Health risks of aluminum have been known for over a 100 years, yet we coincidentally find aluminum added and/or concentrated in so many things we consume, wear, and use daily, such as commercially made bread products[1], american cheese[2], tap water[3], filtered water (activated alumina, reverse osmosis[4]), medicine (pill buffers, nasal sprays, *vaccines*[5]), clothing[6], personal and *baby care* products[7] such as shampoos, deoderants, toothpaste, makeup and unfortunately plenty more too. Tor*** Projector Review PT 3: Bulbs READ MORE AT This is a review using 2 different bulbs. On another review of mine, someone mentioned replacing the default Philips bulb with a GE MR16. I went to the store and got GE's "Constant Color" bulbs, and the results were worse. So I revisited the comments for my previous review (PT 2) and noticed that the OP mentioned "Reveal" and so I think I got the wrong ones. I'll have to go back to the store and look for "Reveal" MR16 by GE and do another review. Update November 20 2008: I purchased a generic 50 Watt *spot* bulb from eBay and it makes a difference. I don't know the angle of the bulb, however, I can see the darker scenes much better. I have no idea what the extra heat will do to the LCD panel over time, but I guess, eventually, we will find out! ...UPDATE: It's been 3 months since using the 50 watt bulb and as of this writing, there is no noticeable damage...however...I COULD'T SAY THE SAME FOR YOU SO ANYONE ATTEMPTING THIS: DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. Don't come back to me crying that I need to buy you a new Tor*** when yours gets fried for some reason. The only thing you'll get out of me is, "I told you so".

LED Tube Light Bulb Installation UTube LED Lighting Today LED Tube bulb T8 retrofits are becoming the forefront of fluorescent retrofit lighting. Unlike fluorescent lamps, LED Tube linear Bulbs always require a small driver to regulate the flow of DC power through the lamp. However, a LED bulb converts electrical power into useful light more effectively than a fluorescent lamp could. Retrofit any current fluorescent T8, T10 or T12 bulb you currently have over to an energy efficient LED Tube bulb in no time at all! Lower energy cost helps offset the higher initial cost of the LED light bulb. Many T8 tube bulbs can be found in large commercial or school buildings and the LED tube model is now being used as the energy-saving alternative to mercury filled fluorescent lamps models currently. Compared with fluorescent uTube bulbs, LED U-Bulbs use less power for the same amount of light, last up to 3 times longer, stop potential fluorescent headaches, contain no toxic mercury, and use no ballast that can fail and also generates high heat levels demanding more air conditioning for a room.
