  • How did Polonium Haloes form in old rocks? Information from www.csun.edu I have simplified the story greatly. The basic idea is presented, but most of the details are omitted for clarity's sake. A picture of the calcite dike: www.csun.edu Errors that I caught after recording this: Radon's halflife is 3.8 days, not 38 days, and U-238 breaks down to Pb-206, not 208. Also, biotite is found in granite, but the type of biotite that Gentry ***yzed is a metamorphic biotite, which is distinct from igneous biotite. A listing of the various stages U-238 goes through in its life can be found:
  • Canon EOS 7D (High Island Reservoir-East Dam) High Island Reservoir is one of Hong Kong's most popular geological sites, and home to our most spectacular rock wonder. Here, volcanic rock composes neat arrays of giant polygonal joint columns along the shore. Amongst these the hexagonal rock columns are most typical examples. Catching your eyes with striking angular facets, these giants are rare natural prodigies and invaluable geo-tourism resources that draw great interest. Around High Island Reservoir, especially the East Dam, you can observe the most typical hexagonal columnar joints from different angles. There is also a chance to examine the rock composition and structure at close range. Looking down from the East Dam rock cliff, you have a clear view of buckles in the hexagonal columnar joints. Judging by the s-shape section, we know the rock columns buckled under gravity before it could cool down completely and solidify, and thus the scene we see today. With such evidence, it is easy to trace the formation of volcanic extrusive rock. At the observation point for the hexagonal columnar joints, you can also find outcropped basic lamprophyre veins. Lamprophyre is a dark dyke comprising mainly biotite, amphibolite, augite and light minerals like plagioclase and orthoclase. It is usually in vein attitude and wide distribution. Po Pin Chau just off the East Dam is another interesting place to see extraordinary formations. This is where you find giant stacks that emerged when a complete hill was slashed into two by ...

  • Confirmation of a Young Earth - Radiohalos - HD CLAIM: "GENTRY MISIDENTIFIED POLONIUM - IT WAS RADON THAT CAUSED THE POLONIUM HALOS" It is said that Gentry misidentified the polonium. However, Gentry's research was published in recognized peer-reviewed journals, and not one scientist who disagreed with Gentry's interpretations ever in a peer-reviewed journal questioned his identification of the halos. The claim only occurs in fundamental evolutionist websites like TalkOrigins. Many of those who have argued with Gentry in the past have not disputed his identification of the polonium halos. For example, G. Brent Dalrymple, former Deputy Director of the US Geological Survey, famously testified at the Arkansas creation trial in 1989 that the polonium radiohalos were "a very tiny mystery". Had Gentry misidentified the halos, the experts would have had the perfect opportunity to say so. The fact that Dalrymple did not do this, but rather acknowledged that Gentry had correctly identified the halos, speaks volumes. No doubt Gentry and Snelling themselves will be dismissed simply because they are creationists, but between them they have studied hundreds of thousands of halos and have accumulated far more expertise in this field than their critics. Anyhow, a rebuttal must be made to TalkOrigins and their radon hypothesis (that radon - not polonium - formed the halos). THE RADON HYPOTHESIS Brawley acknowledges that it takes 500 million to 1 billion alpha emissions to produce each visible 'ring' in a radiohalo. He also ...

  • Pastor Chui - The Flaws of U238 to Pb206 Datings.flv This is a 5-minute sermon from science. It points out some flaws in the dating scheme of uranium-238 to lead-206. Not only there are numerous assumptions needed for dating a piece of rock, but also there are many inconsistencies in the results of dating. There is no way to guarantee that the rock has been a closed system during these eons of time. In fact, the longer the time, the less likely are these assumptions to be true. There are 15 byproducts of uranium-238 decay, and yet most of these byproducts are not found in a typical sample of uranium rock. Some rock specimens such as biotite only have Po218, Po214, and Po210. Dr. Gentry claims that these polonium halos are primordial, meaning that they were not the products of decay. He claims that these rocks are signatures of God, and that the rocks were created suddenly by God. He made the challenge that if anyone can make a fist-size granite, he would give up his claims. To date, no one has met his challenge. Thank God for Dr. Gentry's research in radioactive halos.

The first day we went to Mt Leyshon and got a quick tour of the reclamation work, and then we went down to the core shed. It made all the difference to see the cores of the breccia, and put all the stuff covered in the talks into perspective. A lot of the cores had been turfed out since the mine is closing, and as a result I was able to fossick a number of nice samples, as did almost everybody else. I also had my first run in with a huntsman on the first night of the trip, when I shook out one of the extra duvets. Yes A duvet, it does get cold in the desert." • Adya Clarity Cleansing and Water Purification ADYA CLARITY is simply Black Mica, or the volcanic minerals where Zeolite comes from. Not only does it completely purify water, but it actually perfectly structures the water, increasing the oxygen content, and pulls out the unhealthy "hard" inorganic minerals that are bad for you, including chlorine and fluoride. It also creates wonderful possibilities on a larger scale for cleaning up our very polluted planet's water supply. *Song Credit Illume by Fleetwood Mac.

  • Biotite in PPL Biotite in PPL. Initially it is a light pale-brown colour. This is described as its body-colour. Note that as you turn the stage of the microscope the biotite colour changes to a dark-brown colour. This property is called pleochroism and is due to the path light takes through the mineral. Some minerals are strongly pleochroic, others are only weakly pleochroic and some are not pleochroic at all. Other minerals in the field of view are quartz and feldspar. Note they are colourless and are not pleochroic. (c) Birkbeck College, University of London

  • Granite! The Versatile Igneous Rock The minerals that are found in granite are primarily quartz, plagioclase feldspars, potassium or K-feldspars, hornblende and micas. Quartz is usually the last mineral to crystallize and fills in the extra space between the other minerals. Quartz's hardness, lack of chemical reactivity and near lack of cleavage give granite a significant amount of its desirable durable properties. The quartz will appear gray, but is actually colorless and is reflecting and fusing the colors of the white and black minerals surrounding it. The plagioclase feldspars are generally white with a porcelaneous luster. The K-feldspars are generally the ones that give granite its color variations from yellow to orange to pink or blue. Dark K-feldspars can give granite its black varieties as well. The micas are generally muscovite (silver), biotite (black or brown) or lepidolite (violet or pink) and provide the sparkle that some granites possess. The hornblende and biotite provide granite with the black pepper portion of the famous and distinctive "salt and pepper" look to classic granite. As an igneous rock, granite forms from melted or molten rock called magma. As an intrusive rock, granite forms from molten rock that never reaches the surface of the Earth. Granite forms from the melting of lighter materials than is found in the deep crust or mantle. Where did this magma come from? There are scientists that disagree on this subject. In general there is agreement that most granite is derived from ...

  • Thomas Range, part 4 Thomas Range, West Desert in Utah, Topaz mountain area April 2010 This area is rich with obsidian rock, a volcanic rock that looks like glass. Obsidian is often referred to as "Apache Tears" from the "Legend of the Apache Tears", as follows: An Apache / Jicarilla Legend Apache Tear Drop is a form of black obsidian. It is a calming translucent stone, found in Arizona and other parts of the US It is composed of feldspar, hornblende, biotite and quartz. It was formed by rhythmic crystallization that produces a separation of light and dark materials into spherical shapes, and is a form of volcanic glass. There is a haunting legend about the Apache Tear Drop. After the Pinal Apaches had made several raids on a settlement in Arizona, the military regulars and some volunteers trailed the tracks of the stolen cattle and waited for dawn to attack the Apaches. The Apaches, confident in the safety of their location, were completely surprised and out-numbered in the attack. Nearly 50 of the band of 75 Apaches were killed in the first volley of shots. The rest of the tribe retreated to the cliff's edge and chose death by leaping over the edge rather than die at the hands of the white men. For years afterward those who ventured up the treacherous face of Big Pacacho in Arizona found skeletons, or could see the bleached bones wedged in the crevices of the side of the cliff. The Apache Women and the lovers of those who had died gathered a short distance from the base of the cliff where ...

This isn't a biodiesel made from used frying oil; instead, it's made from general urban waste which is treated by bacteria. The result of that bacteria? Fatty acids that can be used to produce standard biodiesel. According to the company's CEO, the process is fully biologic, competes with no feedstock and is really sustainable. However, the process doesn't yield that much actual fuel: just one liter of biodiesel from 10 kg of trash. • thEPay4C Granite rock is classified according to the QAPF diagram for coarse grained plutonic rocks and is named by the percentage of quartz, alkali feldspar and plagioclase feldspar on the AQP half of the diagram. True granite contains both plagioclase and alkali feldspars. When a granitoid is devoid or nearly devoid of plagioclase the rock is referred to as alkali granite. When a granitoid contains less than 10% orthoclase it is called tonalite. A granite containing both muscovite and biotite mica is called a binary or two-mica granite. Two-mica granites are typically high in potassium and low in plagioclase, and are usually S-type granites or A-type granites. The volcanic equivalent of plutonic granite is rhyolite. Granite has poor primary permeability.

Orbicular rocks have been reported in few places of the world: Chile, Finland, Australia, New Zeland, Sweden and Southafrica. They are rare textural varieties of magmatic (plutonic) rocks, in Chile, made out of granite. They occur from granitic to mafic, ultramafic and carbonatic types of rocks. Most of them made out mainly of : K-feldspar and plagioclase, quartz, dark minerals like hornblende or biotite. Round bodies called "orbicules" or just "orbs". Some are elongated due to deformation by exposure to very high pressure and temperature. All of them contain a core in the middle surrounded by radially grown crystals. The outer part of an orbicule shows concentric lines - called "shells". Some rocks have only got one single shell, but most of the rocks contain a lot of concentric shells. I had a free day so I thought that I would take my Geiger counter out and see if I could find the old Silver Crater Mine located between Bancroft and Cardiff several miles off the nearest small road.
