Wireless Electricity ( bifilar enhanced ) Experimenters Corner By; Lorrie Matchett....Keeping it simple & cheap....Energy transfer between the coils is around 100 milliamps or so depending on the distance and its resonance frequency. Wireless electricity transfer via magnetically coupled resonance.is based on using coupled resonance. Two coils that resonant at the same frequency tend to exchange energy efficiently and by winding them in a bifilar manner increase this efficiency.. This type of winding, invented by Nikola Tesla enhances the magnetic field which means more power transfer. In this setup, I used a fif*** volt d/c power pack and converted it into alternating current with a custom build electro-mechanical oscillator which resonates at about 20Khz...Higher oscillating frequencies / voltage, increases the energy transfer distance between the coils, yet to be experimented with... The oscillating a/c magnetic field of the transmitting coil induces eddy currents, creating a magnetic field of its own within the aluminum sheet and in turn blocks the energy transfer to the adjacent coil...Most sheet metal materials such as aluminum, steel, iron, brass or copper will block the transfer of energy, but will other metals do the same? The challenge to all the experimenters is to improve on this design.... ( epowerplus@ ) Note: The aluminum sheet used in this video is .080", not as seen....my mistake.

Hydro4f3a MiniPancake bifilar coils These are bifilar wound pancake coils using 35AWG heavy build wire. These coils made on my v3 winder. The large coil is made on a CD sized "blank" piece of plastic that is typically included in a bulk package of CDs. I used this as a substrate because it is thinner than a standard CD and has no aluminum layer. The large pancake coil is 4.98mH air core. The two smaller coils are made on a miniature CD, which fits perfectly in a flyback transformer core. These mini pancake coils are 4.93mH in series (air core), and 96mH on the flyback core.

Bifilar Coil Bifilar CoilA bifilar coil is a coil that contains two closely spaced parallel windings. There exist four types of bifilar wound coils:1.Parallel- wound, series connected;2.Parallel-wound, parallel connected;3.Counter-wound, series connected;4.Counter-wound, parallel connected. The bifilar coil is most commonly used in the following applications:1) To create a low-inductance coil with a large number of loops - This may be required to make a wire-wound resistor operating on alternating current.2) To create a circuit with parallel connected windings. The capacity of such coil will be a lot higher than that of any regular one (which allows one to use an additional capacitor in the circuit).3) The bifilar coil is a lot higher in quality than a regular one, although its wire diameter and frame are the same. This makes it a good choice for circuits and multiple-tuned transformers.4) In pulse transformers one of the windings of a bifilar coil is used as a means to dissipate the energy accumulated in the magnetic flux. Because the two coil windings are so closely spaced, they are penetrated by the same magnetic flux. One of the wires is usually grounded using a LED. So when the voltage on the other main wire is out, the magnetic flux generates current using the auxiliary (limiting) winding. The voltage on this winding is equal to the voltage drop on the diode (forward direction). Voltage of the same value appears on the main winding. Had the limiting winding not been used, the ...

Joule Thief With Honeycomb Bifilar Coil I have been reading about Honeycomb coils and thought it would be interesting to wind one and see if it can be made to work with the Joule Thief circuit. It works! The advantages to honeycomb coils are: easy to wrap, high-inductance in small volume, no ferromagnetic material needed, low capacitance, and they are pretty. I'm sure some of you can do better than I so please share your replications by attaching your video. - Morpher44

hydro4f3a 018 Pancake resonance2 Pancake coil resonance #2 In this video, I use a pair of bifilar wound pancake coils (Tesla design) that are stacked on top of each other in close proximity because the coils are made from speaker wire. See my #12 video for how I made this stacked bifilar coil at Interesting to note that the inductance of either one of the bifilar pancake coils is 60uH, but when connected together, the inductance is over 240uH. I hooked the two bifilars together because I could not drive the frequency high enough to find a resonance point with the 1MHz signal generator using a single 60uH bifilar coil as the primary. (more inductance = lower frequency) In the video, I use this "short stack" of bifilar pancake coils as a primary with a 15v to 20v PP square wave signal at different frequencies. I find the resonant frequency using two different secondary coils, a 3mH pancake coil and a 97mH solenoid coil.

Bifilar Pancake Coil driven by Bedini circuit I wound this bifilar pancake coil based on a post that Lidmotor made replicating my Pancake coil driven by the Slayer Exciter. In the post he discuses with Jackscholze the idea of winding a Bifilar pancake coil. I wound a bifilar pancake coil and tried to connect it in the fashion of Tesla's Bifilar coil to the Slayer Exciter and was not able to make it work connected that way. With it connected normal it performed very well. I think I need to revisit that experiment again. I then connected this bifilar pancake coil to the basic Bedini circuit and this is the results.

Joule Ringer with small bifilar coil and Exciter effects.ASF This is the Joule Ringer with a small bifilar coil that shows "exciter" type effects. In this setup I went back to the gremanium diodes instead of the 1 meg ohm pot. The air core bifilar coil is wound using steel (or iron?) floral wire and copper magnet wire. This was recomended by Lasersaber and worked very well. I show the system running open ended on the high voltage output.

Comparison of Tesla Bifilar and Pancake Coils Here I demonstrate an interesting difference in behavior of two coils. One is a standard flat spiral pancake coil, the other is a Tesla bifilar pancake coil. The coils are assembled in a stack with about an inch of space between them. First I use the standard spiral coil as the "transmitter", wired as a primary in a standard Tesla spark-gap system, with the Tesla bifilar as the receiver or secondary. The secondary develops a small spark at an improvised gap, but doesn't fire it consistently. Next I reverse the coils, using the Tesla bifilar as the primary or transmitter, and the standard spiral pancake as the secondary or receiver. The small spark gap is set at fully twice the gap as before, yet the system has no trouble at all firing the gap consistently. The two coils are identical in wire type, length, number of total turns, and are very close in measured inductance. This result is intriguing; I will make another identical Tesla bifilar coil to use as a receiver or secondary. Will the performance improve still more if both coils are the Tesla bifilar type? EDIT to add: The smaller gap (single washer spacer) is 0.075 inch, the larger (2 washers) is 0.150 inch.

Resonant Bifilar Amplifier Coil After reverse engineering the original, I think I have finally got it to work. Next comes the three condenser rings and then to build the pickup combs to match.

Bedini with 200 turn bifilar guess i wanted to show u dont necessarily need a super large coil to get efficient results. this coil has under 200 turns for the run and around 200 for the trigger. each wire is wound on separate layers rather than together.

Bifilar coil's magnetic field strength vs. a normal coil's field This is a quick experiment that I was interested in. A coil of speaker wire is connected to a DC power supply (battery charger), and the magnetic field strength is measured by degrees of deviation of a cheap compass. Then the exact same coil is connected in a bifilar configuration and the magnetic field strength is once again measured in the same fashion. It appears as if the bifilar configuration generates a stronger magnetic field. Wish I had known this before I made my electromagnet.
