Bench Press accident - For those who think I have no business trying to bench 305lbs, here's a vid of me getting 295lbs a few minutes before this accident. I was very lucky: no broken bones, no internal injuries, just a badly bruised chest. I took two weeks off from bench pressing, but I was squatting two days after this accident. It was NOT the spotter's fault, it was my fault. He let go quickly because that's what I told him to do. He wasn't expecting me to take the bar off the rack so quickly. Also, yes, I was using a dangerous grip. I used the thumbs-under grip for many years with never so much as a "close call". Needless to mention, I have changed my grip to wrapping my thumbs. But I'll still get tons of comments about my grip from all the illiterate "experts" out there. Probably 1% of the commenters will read this. I am not an ego lifter, as far as I can help it anyway. This lift was part of a friendly lifting contest a group of gym regulars/friends devised. I really couldn't care less about my max. Please try to refrain from the "what's with skinny guys trying to lift so much wah wah wah?!" commentary. My personal best on the bench press, single rep, is 340 lbs. At the time I weighed 30 lbs more than I did in this video. Why was I recording? I had my camera in my bag, we were having a contest, just figured "why not?". How To Bench Press By Yourself Without A Spotter It's Lee Hayward here again with another workout video training tip. A common question I'm often asked about bench pressing is how can you do a heavy bench press workout by yourself without having a spotter. Well in this video clip I'm going to show you how you can do just that. If you are going to do a bench press workout by yourself you should do your bench presses in the power rack. Simply place a flat exercise bench in the middle of the rack and set the J-hooks so they are the proper height for you to un-rack the weight by yourself. Set the safety pins so they are approx. chest height when lying on the bench. As you expand your rib cage while benching your chest should actually rise above the safety pins. Then, if you should fail to lift the bar off your chest, you can let the bar come down to the safety pins without pinning you down to the bench. Here I'm showing the set up from a side angle so you can get a better view. If you find that the safety pin settings are too high or too low. You can place a board or even a couple weight plates under the bench to help get it to the right height for you. By doing your bench presses in the power rack you can bench anytime by yourself with no need for a spotter. Barbell bench techniques & How to use wrist wraps Hey guys, this is quick video showing some of my barbell bench techniques and how to use wrist wraps. I got a new video camera the next videos should be better than these previous videos! Also I just got YouTube partnership last week! Thanks everyone! I've only been on here for a few months so that's pretty cool. I'll film all my workouts and show you guys what I can. Questions: please write in the comment box below. I won't answer questions anywhere else. Key points: - Gripping the bar wide will target your chest better. - Keep your feet on the ground and legs wide apart for better stability. - Go as low as you can with the bar; just don't bounce it on your chest. - Breathe out as you push up - Wrist wraps help support your wrist for heavy weights- keep them loose if you're not doing your set yet and tighten them up when you're ready to hit your set. Don't wait too long or it'll cut off your blood flow. -wrist wraps I use are by INZER. I believe they are 20 inch wraps. You can buy them on ebay or I bought mine from (I actually went to their store here and they're pretty cool people) Next video will probably be Legs or Diet.. whichever one I can enough clips of first.
