The Art of Raoul Dufy When I was in school my teacher had a wrack of art books. She noticed I was always at that wrack and told me I could take some home if I chose to. The first one I took was one on Raoul Dufy. I fell in love with his bright dizzy colours and the feeling of his art. 30 years later I get to share him with all of you. Making this video put me right back to the day when I opened that book. Enjoy Raoul Dufy was born at Le Havre, in Normandy, one of a family of nine members. He left school at the age of 14 to work in a coffee importing company. In 1895 when he was 18, he started evening classes in art at Le Havre École des Beaux-Arts. He and Othon Friesz, a school friend, studied the works of Eugène Boudin in the museum in Le Havre. In 1900, after a year of military service, Raoul won a scholarship enabling him to attend the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was a fellow student with Georges Braque. The impressionist landscapists, such as Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro, influenced him. Introduced to Berthe Weill in 1902, she showed his work in her gallery. Henri Matisse's Luxe, Calme et Volupté, which Dufy saw at the Salon des Indépendants in 1905, was a revelation to the young artist and directed his interest towards Fauvism. Les Fauves (wild beasts) emphasised bright colour and rich bold contours in their work, and Dufy's painting reflects this approach until about 1909, when contact with the work of Paul Cézanne led him to adopt a somewhat subtler technique ...

Nature's Pocket-The Funk Jam Song and Band Background- This is a funk jam by Nature's Pocket. Since the band were in a dilemma about their name, they came up with the pathetic title "Marvel." Marvel (Nature's Pocket) were almost the winners of a local Savannah music contest. Nature's Pocket was the name settled by bassist Robin "Shavon" Sherman or "That Dude" as guitarist Mike Foo likes to call him. Engaged in 2005, Nature's Pocket had decided to conquer many heights. Originally what had started in Mike Foo's garage developed into a larger concept. Thriving with musical ideas, drummer/synthesist Vuk Pavlovic, guitarist/vocalist Mike Foo, and bassist/vocalist Robin Sherman decided to work together and primarily compose and perform original tunes inspired by their favorite musical groups. The first single by Nature's Pocket was entitled "Ain't That a Wrack." Wrack was the first tune the band had written and performed, however the band's mutual friend Nikita K. Carpenter had been crucial for the development of the tune. Nature's Pocket had originally settled under the name "The Khrushchevs." Following "Ain't That a Wrack, Pocket had written an absurd funk/rock song entitled "Psychedelic Booty Powder." Still unhappy with their band name, drummer Vuk Pavlovic brainstormed thousands of potential names. Pavlovic convinced the other two members of a new name, "The Sessionists."
