The AT&T Helmet Man (Day One) I made a special helmet today to poke some fun at AT&T. Ryan wore it around Nashville this evening and here are the results. I'm actually a satisfied AT&T customer myself, but when I thought of this idea it was too funny to pass up! The map was made with a sheet of Plexiglas hand-painted with the map from Verizon which I printed out in full size and traced before painting. Ryan was wearing a wireless mic under his jacket (to avoid notice) which accounts for the audio scratching. At the mall, I put the camera into a bag and carried it nearby. We couldn't have the camera too close to the action in the mall because of the wireless receiver which made the camera look just a bit too "pro" to be recording in public places. Wanna Bet In this network spot, we open on a shot of an AT&T iPhone 4. As it rings, we cut out to a man sitting in a diner. He interrupts the caller, "Before you say anything, it was 1995." The caller objects, "It was '93." This argument continues, and as the caller proposes a $10 bet that he is right, our character exits the call screen and pulls up his search engine. While arguing his case for the 1995 release, he pulls up a page about the song "Whoomp! There It Is" and learns that it did in fact come out in 1993...he was wrong. In need of a quick exit strategy, he hangs up the phone saying that the restaurant is on fire. In the network, AT&T lets your iPhone talk and surf the web at the same time.

AT&T Commercial - Bangs In this High Speed Internet spot, we open on a dad sitting on a couch surfing the web. His face is covered by his computer. His daughter enters in a hurry to ask her father a question. We see a close up of the dad and notice that his whole appearance a la a new hair style and a hoodie are not very "dad" like...rather he's styled in the trends of a cool 15-year old. The Father is simply trying to relate to his daughter and show her that he's up to speed...because of everything that he's learned from searching the Internet. He's even video chatting with her boyfriend. Though the dad is sincere, the humor in the spot is derived from his cluelessness, a very relatable moment amongst parents and their children.

AT&T Network TV Commercial -- Flash Mob This network spot shows the benefit of having 4G speed, and the result of being left behind on a slower carrier. We see a man eagerly eyeing the clock in a train station. As it strikes 12:00, he throws down his trench coat and bursts into an elaborate dance. While he goes through his routine, we pan out and see others standing around the platform in similar trench coats, watching him with looks of frustration and disbelief. He slowly stops as he realizes he is dancing alone, he pulls out his phone and sees that the message he has been downloading for a few minutes has finally finished. AT&T 1993-1994 'You Will' Ad Campaign Compilation - All 7 Ads i could never find a complete compilation of all of these videos, so i put all 7 together and uploaded it for the world. looking back on these ads, i see that they were eerily prophetic. seriously, the only one of these things that i don't do or haven't done are faxing from the beach (although i email, mms, and upload to the web all manner of pics and vids) and use a vioce-activated lock on my apt door. webcams, ez-pay, self-checkout, gps, wifi/wan, atms for tickets and driver licenses, on-demand video/tivo, realtime online multi-user video project collaboration, wris***ch cellphones we have almost everything. the only things we don't actually have are the automated voice-activated software agent (still in the works), "fax from the beach" (fax is dead, now we email, mms, etc. via wan/wifi/3G/4G), and videophone-booths (instead, video cell phones have existed since about 2003 and even in the iPhone, which i frequently use). plus, i like the song they use.unfortunately, the song was made by a studio working for the ad agency who made the ads, so it's unavailable. update, 1.25.2011: well, there's an app for faxing-- from the beach, i suppose... also, i was contacted by at&t corporate today. they want to use my video for a presentation. i sent them the source vids. they're going to upscale the resolution send me a copy when they're done. hopefully, they'll let me upload it here to replace this one!
