Think for a Change (11): Freedom to Think Differently, or At All This is a bit of thinking on thinking. If we are to think for a change, any change, it would make sense to first figure out *how* to think. It is a practice that takes discipline, but the strange thing is that we are hardly ever taught how to do it. And in many respects, it is the very process of thinking that is most valuable--rather than the answers or explanations or stories that come out of it--because it is this process that actually produces changes in ourselves and our surroundings. I don't mention it in the video, but there really is something to be said about intellectual freedom, in the sense that we are free to think differently than what has already been thought and given to us. You can read here for some ruminations on just how hard it is to think freely, and especially how hard it is to make others aware of their own freedom in this respect. In fact, it may be one of the hardest things.

All quotations and the clip at the end are taken from the film Zeitgeist: Addendum. It is completely free to watch online with subtitles for various languages.

Eternal tears of sorrow - The last one for life I just mixed some crazy clips and made this video.

Developing free will and rationality through philosophy This is the second part of a 15 minute talk I gave at the 6X9 event at Oliphant Street in December 2010. The talk is about how experimental psychology has undermined the idea that humans are rational moral creatures with free will - but how we can still perhaps become more rational, moral and free through philosophical training. Check out my blog:

Polar Night Fandango - Demo of decadence [commercial] Our first demo is finally ready and you can now get it for free! We would happily hand it to you personally if you don't live too far away. ASKESIS LAST WINTER (HORROR VACUI-DEMO) Rock-Metal-Progressive

Practising "Askesis" (1992) "Askesis" is a Guitar Craft piece written by Tony Geballe. On this video (from an old forgotten January 1992 VHS tape) I practice the piece, with mixed results. I play along with my Atari computer - I had entered all notes from the bass and the melody track into Notator so I could practice both tracks. Here I play the "bass" melody. For some reason, the very last seconds of the piece were missing on the original recording ... sorry for that
