Meet the Artists - Akon: Music Of A Konvict Aliaune Thiam, aka Akon grew up in Senegal before he and his family (including his father, jazz percussionist Mor Thiam) returned to the united states, and settled in New Jersey when he was seven. There he discovered hip-hop for the same time, as well as crime. He was eventually jailed, but he used the time to work on his musical ideas. Upon release, Akon began writing and recording tracks in a home studio. The tapes found their way to SRC\Universal, which eventually released "Trouble", Akon's debut LP, in June 2004. The album was an interesting hybrid of Akon's raps and silky, West African style vocals with east coast and Southern style beats. The success of the song "Locked up" raised Akon's profile, and he followed up in the fall of 2006 with "Konvicted". Soon enough, two of the album's singles, "I wanna love you" and "Smack that", had made their way to the upper regions of the Billboard charts. Watch as we see how the only thing Akon is guilty of being Konvicted of... is talented.

Meet the Artists - Black Eyed Peas When discussing the characterization of the group, status quo is a term that will more than likely NOT come up during the conversation. As a matter of fact, judging from their distinctive sound and style, one would probably be safe to assume that "outside the box" is the only place they feel comfortable. The Black eyed peas have been able to successfully dodge Hip hop's many pigeon-holes and firmly establish themselves inside a personalized niche amongst the materialism and violence that ofter saturates rap music. A hybrid mixture of hip hop and pop, accompanied by the flair of break dancing, has come to define the group's unconventional form of artistic expression and has helped to catapult them into worldwide super stardom. Grab a plate, earplugs, and your dancing shoes as the Black eyed peas give you a whole hour of noise and phunk.

Artists! Finish this picture! Okay, time for something VERY different. Someone a short while back had a great idea-- I start a picture, post for download, and have anyone who wants to do their version of finishing it. So here is a start on that... Go to my website here to download the image: It's a zip file. I'm not sure, but I think PC users have to right click, "save as" or something like that. Macs will just download it outright when you click on the link. Have at it, fellow artists! If it is within your means, post it to youtube, and put the video response under this vid. EDIT: ONe more thing-- SOmeone please post and let me know that the file download worked okay. You can also download a hi res jpeg here: Also-- feel free to post it ANYWHERE...! Deviantart, flickr, whatever. I can't wait to see some of em.
