The Alcazar (castle) built during the 14 and 15 centuries served as the model castle for Disney Land. I paid to take the tour of the entire castle, including the tower. The view was absolutely amazing. We could see the Gothic cathedral in the city, snow--covered mountain tops, and the countryside all at once. We climbed 152 stairs to reach the top of the tower...and it was quite a work-out since the steps were taller than half of my leg. Many of the buildings in the city were constructed around the same time as the castle and have unique designs specific to architecture of this era. The C&O C*** is the most intact and impressive example of America's 19th century c*** building era. Catoctin Creek is the single national site where the two titans of period transportation, the C&O C*** and the B&O Railroad, struggled, fought, endured Asiatic Cholera, and finally compromised to cross in parallel a major tributary of the Potomac River; the C*** on the historic Catoctin Aqueduct and the railroad on the adjacent viaduct. EDSTONE AQUEDUCT The Edstone (or Bearley) Aqueduct spans a shallow valley carrying the Stratford C*** between Wilmcote and Wootton Wawen. Consisting of a narrow, cast iron trough some 600 feet long and supported by brick piers the aqueduct crosses both Salters Lane and the railway. In common with the other aqueducts on this c*** the towing path is level with the bottom of the trough giving pedestrians a ducks eye view of passing boats!
