Tunisian government must respect rights amid protests Amnesty International has reiterated its call on the Tunisian authorities to respect human rights amid a renewed wave of anti-government protests across the country today. Police in the capital Tunis reportedly used tear gas and water cannons to disperse demonstrators calling for the party of ex-President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali to relinquish power, ahead of the expected formation of a new coalition government. A state of emergency was imposed in Tunisia as Ben Ali fled the country on Friday. "Amid political uncertainty in Tunisia, the government must do all it can to protect Tunisians from further violence," said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Middle East and North Africa deputy director at Amnesty International.

Gael Garcia Bernal & Amnesty International campaign on International Migrants Day TAKE ACTION HERE: Every year, tens of thousands of people leave their homes in Central America and journey north through Mexico as irregular migrants. Driven by grinding poverty back home, they travel in hope of reaching the USA with its promise of work and a new life. But all too often their dreams are turned to nightmares as they brave one of the most dangerous journeys in the world. Excluded from mainstream society and effectively denied the protection of the law, they are condemned to a life on the margins. Thousands fall victim to beatings, abduction, rape or even murder by criminal gangs and some public officials. Their lives and deaths are largely invisible. Many of their stories will never be told. These abuses must no longer be tolerated in Mexico.

John McCain Defends Amnesty & Open Borders Juan Hernandez John McCain has deployed Open Borders advocate Juan Hernandez as the National Director of Hispanic Outreach for his Presidential campaign. Juan Hernandez used to work for Mexican President Vicente Fox, he has dual US and Mexican citizenship, and is a regular guest on major news networks where he advocates amnesty for illegal aliens and the free flow of people across the US and Mexican border. Juan Hernandez worked for the Mexican government as the head of the "Presidential Office for Mexicans Abroad". Hernandez has been a flagrant advocate for giving amnesty, US driver licenses, and banking services to illegal aliens. He is the author of a book titled "The New American Pioneers: Why Are We Afraid of Mexican Immigrants?" where he compares illegal aliens in the US with the original European pioneers on this continent. Juan Hernandez has stated to the media that he advocates a "Mexico First" philosophy for Mexican Americans (legal and illegal) living in the United States! Juan Hernandez advocates the free flow of people across US Borders to "establishing a new North American market combining the US Mexico" Hernandez has also defended illegal alien identity thieves and other illegal alien criminals that have harmed Americans. Both Obama and McCain supported AMNESTY for illegal aliens in the Senate and are now promising to continue the push as President. We hope we can block either Obama or McCain on this issue in the Senate and Congress where there are still some politicians that actually represent the American public instead of the Open Borders lobby. Anger over Nigeria amnesty - 29 Sep 09 The Nigerian government has offered amnesty to fighters of the The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (Mend) group who have long been waging a rebellion in the country's main oil-producing region. But as the amnesty deadline runs out on Sunday, the plan is increasingly coming under scrutiny. Experts say the plan will not help in restoring calm in the region since it does not address key issues like unemployment and wealth sharing. Even ordinary Nigerians are angry, complaining that the government is ignoring them while seeking to reward armed men who caused trouble. Al Jazeera's Yvonne Ndege reports from inside the Niger Delta.

About Amnesty International An official Amnesty International video that they screened at the AIUK AGM meeting 2006. Some amazing footage and a really motivating video - I got a copy to show my Amnesty youth group at our meeting and it really inspired them to get active. I have decided to share it as it is amazing viewing, and I think it will spark the imagination and enthusiasm of most audiences. Rest in peace Peter Benenson. NB: A lot of people have been asking how they can download this video... I might get in trouble for this, but go to and convert this video into a Flash file which you can download to your computer. Then use the free software 'iSquint' (Google it) to convert it to a QuickTime file. You can download any Youtube video this way, but you need to use a Mac to do it. I didn't tell you how to do this, shhhh. Please use this video wisely - I do not own the Copyright to it, but if it is used to advertise and raise awareness of Amnesty International and human rights abuses then I'm sure they wouldn't mind.
