Albatross - studio version Albatross. (Fleetwood Mac). One of the greatest instrumental tracks of all time. A beautiful, haunting and thought invoking piece of music. I recorded this on December 8th 2004, just two days after my mum passed away. This was her favourite piece of music, and I recall she used to play the 7" single on the record player with the arm up so that it would play over and over. Whatever band I was in I would always make sure we played this whenever my mum came to watch us. This is the exact recording that was played at my mum's funeral service. I deeply regret one thing about this tune - I never managed to record this for my mum (she asked me often) until it was too late. I am posting this today in rememberance of my mum, I miss her dearly. Please take time to do those little things for your loved ones - they are often the things that mean the most to them.

Fleetwood Mac - Albatross Fleetwood Mac are a British-American rock band formed in 1967 in London. The only original member present in the band is its namesake drummer, Mick Fleetwood. Despite band founder Peter Green naming the group by combining the surnames of two of his former bandmates (Fleetwood, McVie) from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, bassist John McVie did not play on their first single nor at their first concerts. The keyboardist, Christine McVie, has, to date, appeared on all but two albums, either as a member or as a session musician. She also supplied the artwork for the album Kiln House. "Albatross" is a guitar-based instrumental by Fleetwood Mac, released as a single in 1969, later featuring on the compilation albums The Pious Bird of Good Omen (UK) and English Rose (USA). The piece was composed by Peter Green. The composition suggests a relaxing sea setting, with cymbals imitating the sound of waves and a dreamy solo from Green's guitar. It contains only two chords, Emaj7 and F#m, and could be seen as an early ambient work. It is often assumed that Green used his Les Paul but he said it was his Fender Stratocaster, as there is subtle use of the vibrato bar. The Les Paul that Green used in Fleetwood Mac has a nasal tone like that achieved in the in-between positions of a Stratocaster, and heard in the song.
