Aisling's Song - Crossover So I've been extremely busy lately. I'm in two choirs, on lights crew for theatre, and have a billion classes that are so freaking hard. I did make it into the St. Louis All Suburban Choir with that "Wind of the western sea" song, and I was one of the top twenty altos, so I get to audition for Missouri All State choir! I can't wait! (but I have to practice so much, and that leaves barely any time for youtube...) But, after homecoming on Saturday, I was really bored so I rented a random movie called "The Secret of Kells" and I fell in Love with it!! Seriously, if you haven't seen this movie, you need to. Anyway, there is this beautiful song sung by the faerie Aisling (who is played by a seven year old) and it really grabbed hold of me, so I decided to make a video for it :) Lyrics: You must go where I can not, Pangur Ban Pangur Ban, Nil sa saol seo ach ceo, Is ni bheimid beo, ach seal beag gearr. Pangur Ban Pangur Ban, Nil sa saol seo ach ceo, Is ni bheimid beo, ach seal beag gearr. You must go where I can not, Pangur Ban Pangur Ban, Nil sa saol seo ach ceo, Is ni bheimid beo, ach seal beag gearr. Rough Translation: You must go where I can not, Pangur Ban Pangur Ban, there is nothing in life but mist, and we are alive, but for a short, sharp while. Story: Zeus and Hera must let their child Pangur ban (not exactly a good name for a child, but just go with it) go to earth, and they cannot follow. An Ape finds him, and takes care of him as her own. He knows that he is ...

Aisling - A Walk in the Park Aisling's first music video, featuring original tunes by Andi Wolfe: A Walk in the Park Drakensberg Storm All Roads Lead to Underberg These tunes were inspired by a memorable field season in South Africa and Lesotho in 2003. Andi is a botanist who works on parasitic plants in southern Africa. The 2003 field season was for a trip to the Drakensberg mountains and the highlands of Lesotho in search of Hyobanche, a parasitic genus in the broomrape family (Orobanchaceae). Collecting in these areas involves a lot of hiking and climbing in some breath taking scenery. Andi's field assistants included her graduate student, Jeff Morawetz, and two young lads from Cape Town who were the most amazing climbers: Nick and Chris Laidler. Andi isn't a young lass anymore and so it was kind of hard to keep up with these young men in the mountains. Thus, the title of the first tune is "A walk in the park" to commemorate one evening, after a very long hike, when Andi complained to these lads about how they thought these grueling hikes were just a walk in the park. The second tune is in honor of the amazing thunderstorms that hit the highlands about noon each day. Thunder, lightning, torrential rains, hail stones the size of golf balls - you name it, you got it. Wow! Nature's fury at its best. The third tune in this set is in honor of the Underberg Hotel, where Andi's team spent way too many nights because they couldn't get into Lesotho via Bushman's Nek. Communication between them and the pony ...

Caroline Casey - The Aisling Foundation Global X recently ran into Caroline Casey, the founding CEO of The Aisling Foundation in Ireland ("aisling" is Gaelic for dream and vision). Caroline is an Ashoka Fellow and a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. She was recently named an Eisenhower Fellow --which explains why she was in the US for two months to meet other social entrepreneurs and expand her network (including an exclusive meeting with Global X!) Global X was mesmerized as Caroline told her personal story and how she was dealing with her own disability. Even though she is legally blind and can only see up to one meter, she managed to achieve, at age 34, the three dreams she had when she was a ***ager: she was an elephant handler, she now works for herself, and she drove a race car at 185 km/h. As she puts it, "you don't need eyes to have a vision!" Global X loved what she said about disability: "It's not about you!" Or about life: "We are all frightened, we all have obstacles, but we all have wonderful moments when we are heroes. We all have potential... It's all about facing the demons and taking the risks." Her parting words as she was flying back to Europe: "It's far better to be a dangerous dreamer than a day dreamer."

Aisling Symes : 'If you have any information, come forward The father of a missing two-year-old has made a desperate plea to her would-be abductor, during an emotional press conference today. Allan Symes thanked the people of west Auckland for their dedicated support as the search for Aisling Symes continued into its fourth day. "Aisling is our two-year-old daughter, sister to Caitlin, cousin and beloved niece and granddaughter. We want her back so please if you have any information, any at all, please come forward," Mr Symes said. Parents grief stricken He described the last four days as "the most harrowing of our lives". "No sleep, it's been like we're barely existing, surviving every moment not knowing where Aisling is. Is she near us? Is she being treated well? Things like, has her nappy been changed?" Allan was joined by his wife Angela and Inspector Gary Davey, who said police empathised with the family but don't have a lot to add. He said the investigation had been increased to over 40 officers and he was looking to increase that again this afternoon. Public appeal for help "I'm appealing to anyone with information, no matter how trivial, that it is important to come forward," Mr Davey said. "To whoever has Aisling out there, the sole focus of police at the moment is to have Aisling returned safely. "We hope you come forward and leave her in a safe place where she can be found." Mr Davey said the Commissioner of Police, Howard Broad, had visited the Henderson Police Station and met with the Symes family today. He was asked ...

Aisling Symes: Final farewell to a 'bundle of love' Hundreds of mourners at Aisling Symes' funeral today heard she was a "cutie" with a "loving heart" who loved food, funny noises and raspberries being blown on her stomach. A large crowd gathered outside Ranui Baptist Church, in west Auckland, as Aisling's close-knit family made their final farewells. Alan and Angela Symes took Aisling's's flag-draped casket from the church to the waiting white hearse as the hymn Amazing Grace was played on a whistle. The parents of the two year-old clung to each other as a Kuia farewelled their daughter with a karakia. Family members released white doves and embraced each other before the hearse drove to a private cremation. Police found Aisling's body in a stormwater pipe close to her deceased grandparents' home in Longburn Road, Henderson, on Monday night. The discovery followed a week-long search by police, family and members of the public. Eternal significance Leading the funeral service, Pastor Russell Watts told mourners of a prayer meeting that was happening at the time Aisling's body was found. "As we were praying, the truth came to light," Mr Watts said. He said it was a sign from God. "A level of compassion is coming into the hearts that was not there before," Mr Watts said. He said neighbours were talking to neighbours and people are working together. He said these were good things that should continue. "Don't you dare think that effort was not for nothing," Mr Watts said. He said what the community did meant something and had ...
