We continue our special coverage of the 9/11 anniversary, with this report from Afghanistan. RT on Twitter: RT on Facebook:

In making Obama the third sitting US President to win the award, the Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Obama's co-operative approach to global issues. But many critics say that Obama's resume is too thin to stand scrutiny with other Nobel peace laureates. And for many Afghans, Obama's strategy of even more troops does not fit into their vision of what will bring peace. From Kabul, Steve Chao reports.

Bases for Invasions: 'Afghans cannot kick US out, so we stay' The war in Afghanistan will stretch beyond thir*** years - according to Washington's top military commander there. What began a decade ago as a mission to get the perpetrators of 9/11, has now transformed into an open-ended hunt for the elusive Taliban. Some former US military officers are disillusioned with the Afghan war. Lieutenant Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski thinks the true aim of the invasion was to create a platform for keeping an eye on - or even invading - other targets. RT on Twitter RT on Facebook

Afghan Kings Before the 1600s and prior, the Afghans that lived in cities were subject to live under foreign rulers. Those who refused were forced to live nomadic style in isolated mountain regions where the law of a central government did not reach to them. The Afghans were pushing for the establishment of their own state but many attempts have failed. In early 1700s Afghan leaders or tribal chiefs from Kandahar began to organize themselves and for the first time they freed themselves from foreign rule. In 1709, Mir Wais Hotaki built a large fortress for himself and turned the town of Kandahar to the center of the Hotaki Empire. After a long series of wars, this empire was eventually replaced by the Durrani Empire which was founded by Ahmad Shah Durrani in 1747. The modern nation of Afghanistan is what's left over of the Durrani Empire.

'Common Afghans support Taliban attacks on US' A series of coordinated attacks in Afghanistan's capital Kabul left at least seven people dead and 17 wounded, and resulted in a 19-hour long gunfight. Militants targeted the American embassy and NATO forces headquarters, before several suicide bombers hit police stations elsewhere in the city. Insurgents stormed and occupied a half-built high-rise building, firing guns and rocket-propelled grenades from there. Afghan and NATO forces surrounded the building, killing six militants and forcing several others to flee. US embassy staff were ordered to retreat into bomb and bullet proof shelters. Texas-based Derrick Crowe of the "Brave New Foundation" think-tank says the presence of US troops in Afghanistan merely encourages the Taliban to keep on fighting. RT on Twitter: RT on Facebook:

Training the Afghans The brave men on the Afghan Border Police. If you like this I have more like it. In response to many comments I just want to state that this video isn't to poke fun at any ethnic group, just to show a group of men that have a tough time doing some exercises and could laugh about it at the same time. They tried to teach us one of their dances and we looked just as funny doing that.
