Joe English (born February 7, 1949) during the 1970s, played drums in Paul McCartney's band Wings and in the Southern Rock/Jazz group Sea Level, among others. A native of Rochester, New York, Joe English was a member of Jam Factory, a band based in Syracuse, that evolved into the Tall Dogs Orchestra of Macon, Georgia. Searching for an opportunity to expand his talent, he answered an ad for a drummer. The address led him to the basement of an old building where, much to his surprise, he found himself face to face with Paul McCartney. The audition was for Wings, and English got the job. His first album with Wings was Venus and Mars and, one album later, he would even take the lead vocals for the song, "Must Do Something About It" from Wings at the Speed of Sound. After giving his life to Christ, he formed the Joe English Band, performing as lead singer and drummer. The band toured the world, playing with other major Christian bands of the era, including Petra, DeGarmo & Key, Mylon LeFevre and Servant. In the late 1980s, English joined Randy Stonehill, Phil Keaggy, Rick Cua and others as part of the Compassion All Star Band. As of 2008, English lives in Spindale, North Carolina. He is no longer involved in the music industry. However, he maintains his interest in music as a member of the choir at the church he attends.

Hold Yourself Accountable. www.happiness- We've all made New Year's resolutions. But the problem is -- how do we actually follow through? Initial enthusiasm and determination so often fade to neglect and guilt. A key step is to hold yourself accountable. To help myself stick to my Happiness-Project resolutions, I keep resolution charts. I borrowed the idea from Ben Franklin. In his Autobiography, he explains that he identified thir*** virtues to cultivate, then made a chart with those virtues plotted against the days of the week. Each day, he'd score himself. I've made a similar scoring chart—a calendar with all my resolutions, in which I can give myself a √ (good) or an X (bad). Keeping these charts has made a huge difference in helping me stick to my resolutions. Why? Studies show that we're much more likely to make progress on goals that are broken into concrete actions, with some kind of accountability. Actually writing down a goal helps to commit to pursuing that goal. Research shows that repeating ideas makes them much more "accessible" and therefore more active. As I review my resolutions to score myself, I'm also keeping ideas like "Sing in the morning," "Show up," or "Answer the phone with good cheer" uppermost in my mind. Visible proof of progress is encouraging. I crave those gold stars!
