  • Mangos*** The mangos*** tree is found predominantly in Southeast Asia in countries like China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and Philippines. There has been attempts to grow them in the US but it has not been successful. In Hawaii, the tree has not acclimatized and is rare in those islands. Neither has it been successful in California. The soil and climate in Florida is very unfavorable. Some plants have been grown for a time in containers in greenhouses. One tree, protected and grown in special soil lived to produce a single fruit before succumbing to winter cold. Climate The mangos*** is ultra-tropical and cannot tolerate temperatures below 40º F (4.44º C), nor above 100º F (37.78º C). Seedlings are killed at 45º F (7.22º C). It is limited in Malaysia to elevations below 1500 ft (450 m); In Madras it grows from 250 to 5000 ft (76-1500 m) above sea-level; and attempts to establish it north of 200 latitude have failed. Mangos*** ordinarily requires high atmospheric humidity and an annual rainfall of 50 inches (127 cm) and no long periods of drought. In Dominica, mangos***s growing in an area having 80 inches (200 cm) of rain yearly required special care, but another locality with 105 inches (255 cm) and better moisture- holding soil capacity, flourished. Soil Mangos*** is not adapted to limestone and requires deep, rich organic soil, especially sandy loam or laterite. In India, the most productive specimens are on clay containing coarse material ...

Read the full blog here: This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Huaraz, Peru Entry Title: "No expectation, Best experience" Entry: "I read a bit about Huaraz, but didn't really no what to expect, to my surprise it turned out to be one of my favorite places so far.. For the first few days in Huaraz, i just wondered around talking to tour agencies trying to find out what they had to offer. It turned out everything there was to do around there required you to go to some place first and get acclimatized. So after talking to one agency. i found a good place to get acclimatized which also had one of the most amazing rock climbing sanctuaries in South America, so that is where i was going for sure. The next day I caught a taxi with two other girls and we headed up to 4200m in the middle of the mountains. Once arriving here, my first impression was that this place is like heaven, how ever my second impression was that it is hard to breath and a feel super tired. After dropping my things and grabbing a crash pad at the refugeo, I headed straight for what seemed like endless bouldering. This place was indescribable, was literary a forest of rock pillars that continued for as far as you could see. I spent the majority of my afternoon exploring and bouldering in this jungle of rock and by the time 5:00 rolled around I was so tired that I couldn't fathom the though ...
  • Colorful woman, llama & child in Cusco, Peru This video clip, filmed secretively from La Casona Inkaterra across the square, shows a colorfully-dressed local woman standing with her child and a llama near the church in Cusco's Plazoleta Nazarenas. Because Cusco is situated at an altitude of 3310 meters (10857 feet), visitors who are not acclimatized should plan to spend a minimum of half a day resting after arrival. It's also a good idea to avoid alcohol, smoking and the eating of meat. Furthermore, the consumption of carbohydrates and plenty of clear liquids is recommended. As I well recalled the splitting headache from which I had suffered in Cusco when I first visited that city in 1980 en route to Machu Picchu, I was careful to rest for most of the afternoon on 22 November 2008 after taking the 75-minute flight up to Cusco from Lima, which lies close to sea level. Meaning "navel of the earth" or "center of the empire" in the local Quechua language, stately Cusco contains a mixture of colonial Spanish architecture and Inca remains. Colonial-era churches and monasteries plus walls and doorways of stones smoothed and fitted by Inca craftsmen are juxtaposed with hotels and restaurants, the trappings of the modern tourist trade. A great number of buildings in Cusco are built atop foundations of ancient Inca masonry. In pre-Columbian times the square in the heart of Cusco was called Huacaypata, "the place of tears." Huacaypata, surrounded by palaces, was where assemblies were held. Furthermore, it was to Huacaypata ...

  • Part One - Travel Tales - Climbing Kilimanjaro Terry and Michael had arrived in Africa on May 28, five days before commencement of their Kilimanjaro climb, to allow sufficient time to get over jet lag and to become acclimatized. The time was spent on safari in the area of Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park, finally ending up on June 1 at the Hotel in Moshi where gear was sorted out and they readied themselves for the challenge ahead. Before sunset, Felix, the gentleman who would be their guide and protector for the next six days, arrived. Felix is fifty-three years old and has plenty of mountain experience ... a great comfort. Felix asked if they had this-and-that kind of equipment and seemed to be pleased Terry and Michael were well equipped. They would meet again in the morning. Michael and Terry toasted the mountain with their last beer (until their return) ... suitably the beers name was "Kilimanjaro". June 2 It was a morning of nervous excitement. Felix arrived shortly after breakfast. Terry and Michael would meet the rest of the crew at the park gate. Joining Terry and Michael on their climb would be a seven person support team ... Felix, their guide, an assistant guide (needed, should Terry or Michael have to come down while the other continued), a cook and four porters (one which would also serve as a waiter). This was Day 1 of the climb and as Michael had done each morning on the West Coast Trail, he took a picture of the two of them ... father and son. Final equipment check. Felix insisted that ...
  • My Pepper Garden 2010 - Video 2 I managed to plant my peppers out in the garden late yesterday. It went down to 7 degrees Celsius last night, so I covered them up and it's cloudy and cool today, but staying around 15 overnight, so I should be okay. As well, the forecast is for sunny and warm temperatures in the mid-twenties all the rest of this week. I'm figuring that this will be ideal for the plants to get acclimatized to their new surroundings. I've wound up with 13 varieties: Seven Pods, Scorpions, Bhut Jolokias, Naga Morich, Fatalii, Hot Paper Lanterns, Caribbean Red Habs, Orange Habs, Red Scotch Bonnets, Cayenne, Pequin, Super Chili and Cveta Hot. I am hoping for a big year with the early Spring we've had. Thanks for watching!
  • YEP Himalaya (June 2010) - outtakes After the successful attempt of the virgin peak above 6'000m, we were prepared to leave Ali Camp for Concordia. Before departing, we did a clean-up exercise to ensure that the campsite remains as unpolluted as how we have seen it the first time. In addition, we convinced some porters to bring the rubbish back down instead of burning it. On the way down Baltoro Glacier, more than 70 porters created a massive line, which stood out extremely well in the snow. Staying at such high altitudes for a few days did help in the acclimatization of our bodies, making the trek back to Concordia less strenuous and difficult. Upon reaching Concordia, we were delighted to see Alexis and Basil again. It was a pity that they could not follow us to Ali Camp. During lunch, we realized that Dmitry was not with us! We were worried that he might have fallen into a crevasse as there was bad weather brewing in Baltoro. After sending a small search party, Dmitry was spotted not too far away. The reason behind his delay? Photos!!! Some of the young explorers did their interviews with cameraman Moose about the climb. Next, we did the famous step test with the Mayo Clinic. The comparison of the results of the previous step test done at Concordia a few days ago, underlined the fact that most of us were now more acclimatized to the current altitude as we were living on higher grounds for the past few days. This was shown by a higher percentage of our oxygen saturation level in our blood ...

Read the full blog here: This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Nyalam, China Entry Title: "Nyalam Acclimatization" Entry: "We arrived in Tibet after spending a few sloth-like days in Kathmandu, getting re-acquainted with fresh coffee, tandoori chicken pizza and a lovely Australian red wine. Apparently, we just missed a week long strike in Kathmandu which had brought the city to a halt. After getting to know the eight other people that would be joining us on our Tibet pilgrimage, we made a two hour drive to the border town of Kodari. After quickly clearing the Nepal departure formalities, our gear was taken off the bus and subsequently carried on the backs of some enthusiastic Nepalese that included young boys, older men and women. The following hours of Chinese customs clearance dragged, slowing our pace as we made our way into Tibet. Officials conducted a very thorough inspection of everyone's bags and packs, removing most contents and restuffing them in a haphazard manner, giving us a lesson in a quick re-pack (folding was never really necessary). Besides the lengthy time delay and some group members losing a few books, the process went relatively smoothly. After handmade noodle soup at a at a local family restaurant in Zhangmu, we carried on to the town of Nyalam while paperwork was still being completed by our Tibetan guide back at the ...
  • Black Sea Spearfishing - Patience and Endurance So-iuy mullet ,Pelengas or Russian Grey mullet is a Far-Eastern mullet, which was a newly introduced species in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. A significant part of its presently formed and acclimatized populations was hatched from juvenile fish and fry transported from the Sea of Japan. Since the late 1990s, the pilengas fry are encountered everywhere in the Sea of Azov as well as in the northern areas of the Black Sea. The adult fish winter also along the northern Anatolian coast. Pilengas is feeding mainly on meiobenthic organisms and cannot be considered as a competitor of indigenous gray mullets. Pilengas has become the sole marine fish, which is commercially caught in the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov during all seasons.
  • TEATRO PRAGA - CONSERVATÓRIO A performance by Teatro Praga premiered May 2008 in I Got to write a classic Got to write it in an attic Adrian Gurvitz, Classic "Make a conservative show, make a classic out of ourselves, give birth to a monster, impose an identity, build a greenhouse where we can keep all this and show all this, closed walls, acclimatized room, no danger of getting infected, a thing of our own, plants for others to see. An absolute interior, comfortable, conservative and adequately decorated, a space which is big enough to keep us all inside. Or almost. But what comes after? What happens when it brims over? Are you staying or are you leaving? Do you belong or dont you belong? Is your palace like mine?" II "The point of departure for this show emerges from a text by Peter Sloterdijk addressing the cavernous allegory of the greenhouse: conservatory is alslo a synonym in English for greenhouse, a place where we keep what we want to preserve. If the conservatory is a place where objects and human beings can conserve themselves and survive, distant from all alterations and changes (except for ageing and its natural results), our Conservatory is a place where texts and actors can conserve themselves and survive, distant from all alterations and changes (except for ageing and its natural results). If a conservatory can become a evolved organization, under the form of a public or private establishment, destined to safeguard and promote the teaching of cultural values such as music, dance and ...

  • How Fish Jumped out of the Water: Evolution of the Lung A video I made describing how fish slowly became acclimatized to land after millions of years of evolution. Mostly a response to the lack of Youtube videos discussing the evolution of gills to lungs. There's also no resources I could find on the internet via Google that discuss this evolution which is an extremely hard to answer question posed by many people. Hopefully this video holds enough information for an adequate answer and summary of gill to lung evolution because I could not find anything on the internet that explains it better or even explains it at all.

  • Triops Getting Acclimatized to New Tank My largest Triops, Kneel Before Zod, hanging out in a cup that is floating in a larger aquarium. This is so that the Triops can get used to the temperature of the water in the aquarium before it is allowed into the aquarium itself. Triops can die from "temperature shock" so it is important to acclimatize them slowly to a new tank. Visit to learn more about raising Triops!

Although none are rated as difficult, the itineraries in the north of Peru entail higher elevation changes than the routes in the south of Peru. We try to get people properly acclimatized when we design these trips, for others we state in the notes at the bottom of each itinerary that two days of acclimatization are mandatory in Cusco or Huaraz prior to departure, especially for the harder treks

  • Galactic Federation Of Light Master Hilarion October 31 2010 Beloved Ones, This coming week will present many opportunities for you to move beyond your seeming inertia and inability to DO, for once again, you are all deep into the assimilation of the energies that have been pouring down upon the atmosphere of the Earth since the 10-10-10. Although many of you are becoming more acclimatized to the ingestion of these energies and the direct effects they have upon your four body system, there are always ways in which you are able to tell that you are in the thick of the process and two of the ways are listed above. When you feel this happening to you, what is required is that you listen to the promptings of your body elemental and REST! As you are all well aware, these energies are increasing in intensity and power and it is well for each of you to allow yourselves to rest and to continue your process of releasing all that no longer serves the Light that you truly are. From our perspective we see more of your Higher Selves integrating with your four body system and this will be an ongoing process to allow a more graceful assimilation of the greater Light becoming manifest upon the Earth plane through your physical body. We see more and more of you practicing decrees with the words "I command" within the decree. This is very good practice, Dear Ones, and is paving the way for your greater Light to anchor into your physical being. What you also have to realize is that each time you decree a higher vision for ...
  • 354 Mauritius Botanical walk, Le Petrin to valley River Noir These amateur shots were taken as an annex of a botanical photography in January, 2005. Down on foot from Le Petrin, 700-800 meters altitude. Photo and video list (fragment): 1: Highland-shrub forest of Le Petrin. In the fenced area, non-indigenous species are being removed within a 'pilot project'. Appearance picture of the endemic Ericaceae; Erica brachyphylla. Lack of nutrients and leached soil are said to be responsible for the moorland vegetation of Mauritius. 2: Sideroxylon cinereum var. tomentosum (Sapotaceae) are emerging among the bushes. 3.+4.: Tibouchina viminea (have to be supervised) blue flowered, nice Melastomataceae, introduced plant from Brasil also have started to get acclimatized. On the way also videos were taken of Black River Gorges. Included: Ravenala madagascarienis, Ligustrum walkeri, sights. Labourdonnaisia glauca video and photos. The Labourdonnaisia is one of the main species of the upper crown level. Member of the family of Sapotaceae and said to bloom only once in every 10 years. One thing is for sure, that I have not seen any flower or crop. The species is said to be hygrophil, according to the Illustrated Guide, in Black River Gorges also a xerophyte (drought-tolerant) subspecies, Labourdonnaisia revoluta can be found. It has a dense, dark-green foliage. View from Black River Gorges: Sideroxylon cinereum var. puberulum (tomentosum?) on the right edge of the picture. On the way down further videos were taken: Mare Longue, fenced forest scene ...

Entry from: Urubamba, Peru Entry Title: "The Sacred Valley" Entry: "June 19, 2006 Wanted to let everyone know we had a small change of plans. We did fly into Cusco, but decided it would be best if we went to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu prior to going to Cusco to help acclimatize ourselves to the high altitude. On Saturday, we flew into Cusco(elevation approximately 11000 feet) and negotiated a cab ride to the Sacred Valley to a small town called Pisac (elevation approximately 9000 feet). The population is only 2000 but there are some pretty incredible ruins as well as a regional market every Sunday. The view from the town is incredible. From our hotel window, we were staring at the Andes Mountains. I will try to post the pictures later but it is the most scenic place that we have ever been. On Saturday, we pretty much spent the day getting acclimatized and relaxing. Melanie was getting over her bout with the Peruvian diarrhea and I was somewhat light headed and short of breath. However, by Sunday we were ready to go. We spent the day at the Market and bought most of our gifts for people. The market had an array of items ranging from alpaca sweaters and blankets to small crafts to food and livestock. It was pretty amazing just watching the hustle and bustle of small towns where the people for the ...

  • INCATRAIL Geographically, Machu Picchu is partly located in the Andes and partly in the Amazon rainforest, and it is characterized by tropical vegetation. The invaluable archaeological heritage of the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary combines magnificently with the splendid natural surroundings that are the habitat or unique species of flora and fauna, some of them threatened with extinction. In order to complete the Inca Trail, you need to have a reasonable level of fitness, age shouldn't be an obstacle. It is essential to be well acclimatized to the altitude. The maximum height above sea level along the way is 4200 m (13780 ft), that is why we recommend anyone coming from sea level to spend at least 2 days in Cusco before attempting the trek. www.inca-trail- , , www.salkantay- Visiting the city of Cusco, the ruins of Sacsayhuaman and the gorgeous Sacred Valley of the Incas is ideal for acclimatization.

  • YEP Himalaya (June 2010) - Climbing equipment After the successful attempt of the virgin peak above 6'000m, we were prepared to leave Ali Camp for Concordia.

  • Cultivating the Wild - Indigenous Plants Cultivating the Wild Okanagan residents like to garden and often have elaborately landscaped homes. Flowers are a beautiful addition to any home, but why not consider using local indigenous plants versus more delicate imported plants? Our local plants are acclimatized, used to the local pests and if you get to know them then there are spectacular local plants available to make any yard special. And always remember to plant for attracting bees and butterflies.

  • Funny Horse: Rowan playing soccer with the big purple ball All of the behavior you see was completely untrained and spontaneous - this is a horse simply displaying his natural curiosity and playfulness - Enjoy! Rowan is wearing a saddle because we were testing out the fit of a new saddle when Rowan caught sight of the big purple ball and decided to play. His owner dismounted to allow Rowan to play - the stirrups are down because they do not run up on this military style saddle. How can you teach your horse to do this? If you want your horse to play with the ball all you need to do is set up an enclosed area and then play with it yourself - if he's curious he'll eventually join you. Why was the ball in the arena? Rowan was very afraid of the ball originally so we left it in the arena to help him become acclimatized to it and after a week of snorting and two weeks of ignoring it he decided to play ball!

Read the full blog here: This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Kochi, India Entry Title: "Welcome to India" Entry: "Our first stop in India is in the south in the state of Kerala. Kerala, as far as India goes is supposed to be 'where India slips into second gear, stops to smell the roses and always stops to talk to strangers' according to the Lonely Planet. This seemed to be a good place to start our Indian journey - Delhi and Rajasthan can wait till we are more acclimatized. Also, it is getting very hot in the North so we may not want to spend much time lingering there, despite the fact that there are a number of places on the 'see before you die' list such as the Taj. Our journey to Kochi was our first introduction. First of all, we were the only westerners on the plane. Kerala supplies much of the workforce for the Middle East so there were many people who were obviously returning home for a visit. When we passed through customs with our baggage we had to navigate through a narrow checkpoint. This was the first introduction to 'driving' in India. There was no system that was obvious to us, the uninitiated. It was a free for all with people pushing their overloaded carts willy nilly, the more aggressive managing to squeeze past the timid. Eventually we managed to emerge, into a sea of welcoming faces of family eagerly anticipating the arrival ...
  • Heat Stress and the need to Acclamate 2008 Humans are, to a large extent, capable of adjusting to the heat. This adjustment to heat, under normal circumstances, usually takes about 5 to 7 days, during which time the body will undergo a series of changes that will make continued exposure to heat more endurable. On the first day of work in a hot environment, the body temperature, pulse rate, and general discomfort will be higher. With each succeeding daily exposure, all of these responses will gradually decrease, while the sweat rate will increase. When the body becomes acclimated to the heat, the worker will find it possible to perform work with less strain and distress. Gradual exposure to heat gives the body time to become accustomed to higher environmental temperatures. Heat disorders in general are more likely to occur among workers who have not been given time to adjust to working in the heat or among workers who have been away from hot environments and who have gotten accustomed to lower temperatures. Hot weather conditions of the summer are likely to affect the worker who is not acclimatized to heat. Likewise, workers who return to work after a leisurely vacation or extended illness may be affected by the heat in the work environment. Whenever such circumstances occur, the worker should be gradually reacclimatized to the hot environment. In 2008 Washington State adopted a heat stress standard defining the minimum protection for outdoor workers. Only California has a similar requirement in the USA. The ...

  • Triathlon Hydration Curious how important triathlon hydration is? How about how much you should actually be drinking during your triathlon? This article from the Rock Star Triathlete Academy at will teach you everything you need to know about triathlon hydration. Consider the following triathlon hydration facts: * Your cycling and running speed decreases about 2% for each 1% of body weight lost through dehydration. * By the time you feel thirsty, you can already be at 2% body weight loss . * A 3% weight loss indicates dehydration has occurred. * Loss of fluid during exercise varies, but averages about 34 ounces per hour (and can be 3x that much in hot and humid conditions!). * Hyponatremia, which is just as dangerous as dehydration, is a term used to describe "water intoxication" and can occur with excess water intake above 30oz of water an hour. * Acclimatized individuals who are used to training in hot climates or hot rooms can reduce fluid loss by up to 50%. Based on these facts, it would pretty important to make sure your triathlon hydration is properly planned. Here is how to do it: * Divide your weight in half to determine the ounces of water you should drink per day for adequate triathlon hydration. So a 160 pound triathlete would consume about 80 ounces of water, or 10 8 ounce servings. While some nutritionists will recommend drinking even more if you exercising, you need to remember that you¹re also getting water from ...
